Note:

We are only about three days away from One Be Lo’s next official release, L.A.B.O.R.  I already detailed Vol. 1 a couple of weeks ago and this grouping of One Be Lo’s previous works is equally as dope.   When you hear both of these volumes, it gives the listener a true appreciation of how gifted One Be Lo really is.  I really dig the whole thing but I remember when I first heard the joint Chemistry that he did with Grynch and Combat with Verbal Kent.  Those tracks really resonate with me and both outstanding examples of lyricism.

Again, Laborhood Vol. 2 is only $3 and it would be a damn shame if you didn’t own both volumes.  You are getting a grip of dope tracks for less than the cost of one album.  I could do a whole write up on the tracks you hear on this release but I am going to hold off until L.A.B.O.R. drops this coming Tuesday, September 6th.   Be sure you pick that up when the time comes!

Update:  The Laborhood releases are free!  Free up until Sept. 6th and his other releases are only $1.00! Pick them all up!

Note:

MadKem has an album dropping in September and this mixtape is to serve as a precursor to that album.  It is a compilation of older material and compilations MadKem has appeared on.  I am familiar with MadKem from his appearances on all of those Elementality/DJ KO EPs that were produced last year.  I liked those a lot.  I also am a big fan of Silent Knight, and as you can see, he is all over this mixtape.  So  I expected this mixtape to be pretty dope.  But to put it plainly, this really exceeded my expectations.

MadKem is a lot iller than I gave him credit for.  He has a great mic presence and his lyricism is very clever throughout.  So now I find myself fiending for this new album next month.

You absolutely have to give this mixtape and download and listen.  It’s imperative.  This is one of those moments you can have as a listener where you can enjoy a release from start to finish and come away with an appreciation for an artist you may not be familiar with.

15. Smash (Prod. Miles Bonny)

Note:

This isn’t an official album.  But it is officially from One Be Lo and it would be a crime to not even mention this release on HHD. This is the prelude to the release of his album, L.A.B.O.R. I believe these are older or unreleased tracks from the Michigan artist.  For the most part they are all banging and high quality.  It is just a  taste of what this elite emcee can do when given a microphone.  I am admittedly a huge fan of his and have been such since the Binary Star projects released earlier last decade.  Some artists simply have a way with words.

Now this mixtape isn’t exactly free.  It’s coming in a $3.  Now if you can’t afford three dollars to support a dope hip hop artist then I want you to “unbookmark” my site and “unfollow” me on twitter because we just can’t be acquainted.  With that being said you can stream the whole album below and click the Bandcamp link above to purchase.

Note:

Yeah.  No…HELL YEAH!  As a big C-Rayz Walz fan, this release is exciting! It has been a long time since I have heard some new music from this ever talented emcee.  Not only that, but I feel this freebie may contain some of his best songs,…ever.   This bodes really well for his upcoming album.  Just a few weeks ago, Canibus, released the album that everyone knew he could make but was since missing from his discography.  Now I have the feeling that C-Rayz Walz himself may be on verge of that vaunted, yet elusive, classic album.

12. Disastrous Occurrence (ft. Raw Dismemberment & Reef the Lost Cauze)
13. Choosing Death (ft. Crypt the Warchild & Reef the Lost Cauze)

Note:

This is not meant to be a review.  This is just me lending support to a very talented artist.  King Syze compiled some of his previous work in this release and therefore it’s really not what I would consider “reviewable”.  Much of this material I had heard before, but some of it is new to me.   It is all very dope though.  King Syze has had two very dope albums in the past (Syzemology and The Labor Union).  Both of those releases did not receive the shine that they deserved and for one reason or another King Syze stepped back from music for a while.

But now he is getting back in the studio and thought he would assemble this compilation to re familiarize folks with his music while getting started on a new project.  Definitely make sure you download this if you are not up on King Syze and await his future project.

  17. Gone In Sixty (prod. by MakOne)

Note:

I am going to put you guys onto a little secret…The AbSoulJah.  This artist dropped Slave To The Page roughly three years ago.  It was a free release that I picked up on and loved.  Ever since, I check for his releases, however sporadic they might be.  Hell, I want him to drop two albums a year so maybe I am being a little demanding.  But that’s neither here nor there.  Right now The AbSoulJah  has decided to release seventeen previously unreleased tracks from the last couple of years available to you all for free in prelude to his album dropping later this year.  There are a lot of bangers and if you notice, Ugly Tony (author of the recently reviewed, At Nightfall) touched some of the production on this piece so you can count on the dope production.

What can you expect from The AbSoulJah?  You can expect raw rhymes in a baritone flow.   You can expect intelligence coupled with ruggedness. Some folks have it and others don’t and trust that the man has all the intangibles that put him in an elite category of hip hop artists.

I am not going to do a full review as this is more of a compilation than a true album.  Every joint delivers as promised, but the something special to me on this comp is track 12, Talk To Me, produced by Manu Beats. Just a personal favorite.

Enjoy!

Note:

This review is a long time coming.  The Dirtbag Dan Mixtape was dropped in January and here I am, approximately three months later, commenting on it.  Well, in this case I guess some news is better than no news.

Dirtbag Dan, as some of you know, has cut his teeth in independent hip hop through the Grind Time Battle circuit.  And anyone who knows anything about Grind Time, knows it is not for the faint of heart or weak of wit. Dirtbag Dan has shown and proven to be a winner in all phases of battling, but when I saw he had a mixtape, I wondered  if he could switch gears and put some good songs together.   With the The Dirtbag Dan Mixtape being the proverbial proof in the pudding, the answer is that he does put together good music.

Note:

Ouch. This was a mixtape. A MIXTAPE! And it probably destroys 90% of the albums that are out there right now. Little Vic is a glimpse of Golden Era hip hop in the here and the now. Very few people can turn a phrase like Little Vic. If you are not already up on this artist, let me bring you up to speed. In 2006, Little Vic hit us with the debut album, Each Dawn I Die. Whenever I spoke about this album to somebody, it got positive feedback and acclaim. Everyone who heard it was feeling that album. Things were dormant for a little while with Little Vic leaking a track here and there.  If you were paying attention to his blog you would definitely catch some gems. Last year, Little Vic hit us with the mixtape, Man On Fire. I must’ve played the joint, Sinner, over 100 times. Little Vic just has a way of making you his captive audience.

Note:

Another talented act has emerged out of the DMV by way of Memphis.  Soulfully, Me hit me up a little over a week ago with his debut, Confessions Of A College Kid.  My immediate reaction was that the artist and production were both above par, which in and of itself is a victory.  At 21 tracks, the main question I had by track six was: “Can this emcee keep it up?’  And the answer is…yes.  Yes he can.
