This is another great sampling of the Brown Bag AllStars musical prowess from 2012. I own most of these tracks already but I know I am exception to the rule, so make sure you get on DLing this and passing the link to a friend. There are so many dope jams on here, everyone is sure to find a favorite.
Friday Feature: Jus Daze – 365 Daze (2012)
It’s just after the holidays and I got caught up with family, friends, and the end of the year posts and kind of left the ‘Friday Feature’ hang by the wayside, that is until I remembered this Friday. I was just recently put on to Jus Daze and his style immediately meshed with what we are trying to do at Hip Hop Dependency. He’s been on the battle circuit for a while, but what I am most impressed by is the amount of emotion he incorporates in his music. It’s not just one-liners and battle lines. While he can do those things, he’s more about telling a story and injecting feeling into his cuts. The feeling I get is that he puts a good amount of himself in every verse.
With all that being said, and not being able to consult with Jus Daze before this feature, I thought a great initial offering would be his entire body of work from 2012. In this download you are going to get a variety of his singles, Bow II The Bow, Common Law, and The King Of Queens. This will be a great way for new fans to get acquainted and old ones to make sure their collection is complete.
Stay tuned for a more biographical piece and more music next week….meanwhile DL this!

Top 5 Mixtapes (2012)
Here are my Top 5 Mixtapes from 2012. Click the pics to be taken to the appropriate download links.

If war came in your headphones, this is what it would sound like. Spit Gemz is the quintessential street poet of our generation. This man combines the highest level of intelligence and wordplay making this the best street album/mixtape this year.

Red Eye definitely has an argument for the best mixtape of 2012. This mixtape is tough. Really tough. The beats are big and the rhymes are raw. There are also tons of dope guest shots on this project as well. Lots of replay value on this joint.

Juan Deuce’s first project, No Sweat, is a winner. Juan Deuce is an artist all unto himself and can not be duplicated. This project is absolutely unique. And ‘unique’ in this instance means…fresh.

DMP offers the most traditional of mixtapes in this year’s awards. Lots of short but dope cuts on this project from a group of Virginia emcees back by Nottz behind the boards. Good music to saturate your eardrums in.

Do you want a mixtape to bang and knock in the whip? Our Sandpeople brethren brought you some ill music in 2012 and perhaps none more sick than OnlyOne’s Cult Classic.
Shabaam Sahdeeq – Degrees Of Separation (2012)
Shabaam Sahdeeq is undoubtedly a busy man and to show how much work he has been putting in lately, he’s assembled Degrees Of Separation for established fans and new listeners a like to get acquainted with what he’s been up to lately. Degrees Of Separation includes a lot of the dope singles we have featured on HHD this year, a lot of guest shots that he’s been on, and some newer tracks I hadn’t heard yet.
As for my favorites? I am glad you asked. It’s got the Harry Fraud produced Futuristic which is one of my favorites not only of Sahdeeq but by any artist this year. I am also partial to the Lewis Parker produced Walking On A Razor. I am sure that you will appreciate the talent the man brings to the table after listening to the project and find a few favorites of your own.

I have been a big fan of the Dead Poet Society member ever since I heard their self-titled EP. In my mind, his music keeps getting better and better with time.
64 Bar Assassin, Heartless, and Game Of Death are some of my favorites on a project full of bangers. You are going to like this!

Famoso – Before Tha’ Dope Comes (2012)
I wish I had some time to talk about this release, but time is not on my side and I wanted to get this project out so you can all enjoy it. If you like hard rhymes and beats served NYC style, this is something that you are going to want to check out. A couple of the songs I had heard before but many of them were new to me. A lot of great guest shots available on this one as well.
Be on the look out for Famoso’s, Tales From Tha’ Dopeside next month mean while get acquainted!

Check The Discography: Brown Bag AllStars
I wish I had more time to dedicate to the releases that are coming out of this camp. Their music is always dope and they are consistent to say the least. You should frankly own all of their projects. I will hopefully be able to continue to update their discography throughout the years. Just click the album cover and be taken to a link to purchase the project or download depending on whether or not it was free or not. Enjoy…

Note:
Juan Deuce is not for the faint of heart. If you have a short memory span and don’t like well-woven wordplay he might not be for you. Throughout No Sweat, Juan Deuce takes concepts and ideas that don’t ordinarily blend and makes hip hop magic. In addition to that, this album is produced by some of my favorite producers in the business with the likes of Falside, The Audible Doctor, and J57 making contributions.

Note:
I am going to start this review out with the following statement: Welcome To Hellzgate is most certainly a Top 5 mixtape/street album from 2012. For my part, the only thing that comes close to the standard set by this project is Red Eye’s St. Fatrick’s Day. There are so many bangers on this joint, I simply can’t count them all on both hands. This is something that you can knock whether you are on your way home from work or heading to the spot to get rowdy. You will definitely get amped when you listen to this album!

Note:
Our reigning champ, M-Dot, shot this project over to me many moons ago, while he has been galavanting around Europe on tour with the likes of that group you may have heard of,…Slaughterhouse. Unfortunately it has taken me this long to get to do a write up on the project. Really, Layer Cake, is a collection of guest spots, features, and rarities that M-Dot has put out or been a part of in the last 12 months. While it isn’t an album, there are plenty of dope tracks collected together worth talking about.
