Single You Out: Awful P – Lies (prod. by Conflikt)

received_2186085505052960

I feel like I have been waiting for this Awful P project for a year…maybe I have come to think of it?  But it’s tracks like these that just make you hunger for it’s release.   Every song from Awful P just knocks…

The beat from Conflikt impresses.  I love the altered vocal samples.  And Awful P has a lot of presence on the mic.  His voice and his lines just cut through the beat and hold the listener’s attention.

When The BoomBaptism drops, heads are going to take notice.

Single You Out: Recognize Ali x Ren Thomas x Ruste Juxx – Style

This track is a couple of weeks old, but I am going to share it anyway because it’s just too good to not be included on the site.  Tone Spliff laces our emcees with a high paced banger and chops it up proper while the trio of Recognize Ali, Ren Thomas, and Ruste Juxx all contribute their distinctive verbals to track…each with a different but dope ‘style’.

It’s a sureshot that’s dropping on a project due out later this year called, Renaissance.

BrownBagMoney x Da Cloth – Carnation Milk (Video)

This is a current Dream Team right here!  BrownBagMoney connects with Da Cloth over a Futurewave beat, and then the world just catches aflame.   That’s how hot this shit is!  Rigz, Saipher Soze, Daniel Son, and Mooch drop salvo after salvo of street lyricism that will have you yearning for more.   This is a combination that needs let’s say a 16 track opus.   A few posse cuts…each artist having their own track…all over some Futurewave production.   That has all the trappings of classic.

A guy can dream can’t he?

Justo the MC & maticulous – Man Up (Video)

Justo and maticulous cook up some music from the soul with this track Man Up from their recently released album, Mind Of A Man.  I love the pace and energy of this track.   It’s funky, soulful, and definitively hip-hop.   The song also just caters to the spirit of man.  Learn from your mistakes, and create life lessons.

I just listened to this whole project and it’s borderline impeccable.   You should definitely check it out!

2018 Hip Hop Dependency Artist Of The Year: Recognize Ali

Rec1

It’s been five years since we actually did and end of the year segment where we lauded particular artists and albums for their efforts.   2018 has felt like the right time and place to bring that back our Artist Of The Year accolade.  Recognize Ali embodies the dope movement we saw this past year.  He put out five albums, all of which are dope, none of which are identical.  They are distinctive in sound and all offer something great to hip-hop fans of all walks.  He was also probably featured more times than anyone else this year on projects from others.   In short, his immense talent matched an unrelenting work ethic that was matched by few others this year.

It is when talent and work ethic reach such high levels that we feel compelled to do something special to share that unique gift with our audience.  So please listen to the man’s music…pass the word along to others and read this interview he so graciously granted us.  It’s a great read! We’ve also included a few of our favorite Recognize Ali cutz for your listening pleasure at the end.  Enjoy!

2018: Best EPs

So here is a list of my favorite EPs from 2018.   I easily could have extended this list to 25 projects and been really comfortable about that.  However, I really wanted to showcase what I consider to be the best projects in a year where there was so much greatness to consider.  In the end, there were no votes, judges, or etcetera.  This was simply a matter of personal preference.  I hope you enjoy these projects as much as I did.
