Single You Out: B Leafs – Matatan (ft. Estee Nack, Codenine, M-Dot, Al Divino)

B Leafs tabs some super talented emcees for his new cut, Matatan. Estee Nack, Codenine, M-Dot, and Al Divino spit some exceptional verses over his soundscape. I love when unique styles blend on the same track for the sake of being dope. And while all verses are dope, as per usual, M-Dot’s lyricism and cadence really resonate with me:

Trying to elevate…you hear me now, you hella late….same ones who weren’t there for the struggle want to come celebrate

So true.

If I’m not mistaken, B Leafs project should be due out in the next few months and we should all be looking out for that.

Vocab Slick – What It Is (Video)

Vocab Slick is preparing to release his new offering, Language, on October 29th, and What It Is, is the first appetizer from the platter. Surebert laces the beat as Slick showcases his self-decribed “refresh” as he comes with a clean slate as he brings us his new art. Sounds like we can expect dope things, as the album comes to fruition in a little over a month.

GREA8GAWD – Gem Star (Video)

Not entirely familiar with GREA8GAWD, but his sound goes heavy on his new single produced by Thanos Beats, Gem Star. Really tough track with that street flavor, as GREA8GAWD asks for Allah to help him refrain from violence in this cold world.

Dope production. Dope command of the flow and the bars. This is a win!

New project, Gawd Talk, coming on December 1st.

DJ 2-Tone Jones – Buddhists on Beatties Ford (ft. J Scienide & Supastition) (Video)

I love when artists advance hip hop through creative samples, beats and rhythms. DJ 2-Tone Jones travelled to India and when he came back he had an assortment of traditional Bollywood records which he then sent out to various producers to sample from. Ill idea, right? In the end he wound up with the record, Contraband From India.

On the track, Buddhists on Beatties Ford, The Mighty DJ DR gets the nod to create something dope, and that he does with J Scienide and Supastition invited to rock the mic over this Indian infused beat.

Dope concept and execution.

Starvin B – The Wiz (Video)

Damn. Every time I hear Starvin B spit bars I am impressed. Constantly impresses. I look through and listen to his discography over the years and everything seems immaculate, but the truth is he keeps getting better and better, and with The Wiz, he shows not only can he drop those ill flows, but also produce them himself.

The ceiling is high. And you should definitely check out the album this joint hails from, Get Well Soon!

Single You Out: Lucky Tatt – Answer To A Question (prod. by Endemic Emerald)

Lucky Tatt is a name I hadn’t heard before but he has some Endemic Emerald production going on and to me that’s a solid endorsement. Endemic Emerald would only work with true talent, and that’s what we have here in Lucky Tatt, and his single, Answer To A Question, from his recently released album, Provenance.

Answer To A Question showcases intelligence, introspection, and a health dose of social consciouness. Add to that formula a very capable emcee, and a stalwart of a producer, I think we have a win here folks. I am going to be checking out his album in the very near future.

Single You Out: A.M. Early Morning & Nightwalker – Dusk To Dawn (ft. King Magnetic)

A.M. Early Morning and Nightwalker have some new heat coming and this is the second single, Dusk To Dawn, featuring the lyrical beast known as, King Magnetic. This joint is one of those, catch you slipping after midnight, kind of types. It’s dark and ominous . And those are things we feel around these parts. It’s got all kinds of griminess and grittiness behind.

There is a new EP out on September 16th, L.N.E.M. III, so you might want to be chacking for that.

Vursatyl – Secondhand Smoke (Video)

We don’t here enough from Lifesava’s Vusratyl anymore. So when we do, we definitely want to get the word out on the new music. Produced by the legendary, Vitamin D, Secondhand Smoke, just snaps. It’s fun and funky with some really great word play. It also has an old school kind of vibe especially when Lunden Benard goes in first. This is something that is going to stick with me, and if you appreciate creativity, it should you as well.

Single You Out: Guilty Simpson & Gensu Dean – Don’t Pull

Gensu Dean and Guilty Simpson are linking up again for a new project entitled Ego, which is dropping on October 4th. Don’t Pull is the first single from the project, and truly enjoying the electronic and futuristic sound that Dean fused for this track which allows Simpson to play the lyrical Bladerunner. He has the voice that cuts through the synth layers, giving this joint the grittiness it deserves.
