2-Man Cypher Interview (2014)

This interview has been a long time in coming.  When I heard the 2-Man Cypher (Sleep and Cain) album, Queen City Bastards,  I was made into an instant fan.  The realism of that album, enhanced by the sheer skill of the emcees was nothing short of amazing.  I am of the frame of mind that 2-Man Cypher is going to the top.  How can they not?   They have all the intangibles.  Make sure you pass this interview along and cop that album at all costs.  Also, check for their future music projects.  It’s all next level material.

Locksmith – Hardest Song Ever (ft. Leah Tysse) (Video)

Locksmith is ready to drop his album, A Thousand Cuts, in a couple of weeks, but before he does so he drops the video single for the Hardest Song Ever.  When I first saw the song title I naturally assumed that this was going to be a cut simply about bodying bars.  I could not be more long. This is a song in which Locksmith talks about an incident in which he was abused and exploited by a babysitter when he was very young.

If I tell you the song is deep, it would be a vast misunderstatement.    Hip Hop is all about machismo and here you have an emcee entering his most vulnerable state to air out a painful part of his past.  It is both brave and brilliant, and appreciated.

Single You Out: Premrock – Lens (ft. Chris Quelle)

Premrock once again smites convention with his latest Quelle Chris produced track, Lens.   The rhythm has a jazz type vibe to it, with a lot of cymbal being featured instead of relying on the snare.  It sounds much like, Premrock creates his own rhythm and cadence that the beat follows, instead of vice versa.

It’s just another example of what makes Premrock unique.  His album, A Clean, Well-Lighted Place, will grace us on April 15th.

Starvin B – Blue Note (Video)

Starvin B does not rest!  The man stays making that music.   Producer One-Take utilizes the dusty horn to perfection over the kicks and snares.   Starvin’ does his thing over the beat and has a great perspective to give to listeners when they are out there pursuing their dreams and goals.  Don’t hate, just wall away and move on…

His new album hit bandcamp yesterday, so cop Blood From A Stone at the first available moment!
