This video and song hails from Pharoahe Monch’s most recent album, W.A.R. It’s an album I am inspired to revisit after listening to this very brief cut. The footage for the video comes from Mitchell’s Plain South Africa.
I am not sure where this track is from or destined to be, but it’s definitely worth sharing. The production is coming from Soul Professa and as you can see from the title we have 9th Prince and Inspectah Deck in charge of bar droppin’. The cut is a concoction of soul, funk, and grime, so if that sounds good to you, make sure you cop the single. I especially like the way the Professa chops up the production between the 16s. Dope.
Some songs just draw the emotion out of you. PAIN is one of those joints for me. Nutso and 5th Seal bring child and sexual abuse front and center. The first verse deals with a story about a little girl who is being abused by her stepfather and her mother doesn’t believer her. The second verse tackles the subject on a whole.
The music is of course dope but what I like about this track is that someone with the credibility of Nutso is bold enough to tackle this topic. It would be equivalent to Kool G Rap talking about it in 1992. Eyes be open…
This song is a cut off of the free EP, I Plead The 5th, out now…
Spotted a new artist that has a massive amount of talent and polish in his sound. That man is Matt Black. He has a new album out entitled, Oak Street Market. I asked him if I could release, Free Refills as a single on the site before I realized he had already made a video for the track. Perfect. I love the mix of the bass line and guitar on the track. Black has a laid back flow and deep voice that sounds perfect over the production.
Illogic & Blockhead drop a video single from their most recent endeavor, Capture the Sun. The song itself showcases the talent of both producer and emcee. Up until about half way through the cut, it’s merely Blockhead’s instrumental. But just over the midway point Illogic drops his eloquent observations giving us the best of both worlds.
“…show me the prideful, and I’ll show you an unmarked grave…“
Alright, Deadstock Revival has a release date! It’s dropping on June 4th which is just under a month away. I can’t wait for that. We have heard one strong cut after another and this is no exception. Be on the lookout for Shaz Illyork…
Some visual treatment given to this track off of Sgt. Over’sPrecious Jewels album. It’s hard to compete with a flow like this. The breath control on this track is really impressive along with the overall lyricism. If you enjoy this cut, make sure you check out his album.. Meanwhile, we will keep repping DPSMG until you do!
Brooklyn resident, and Boston native, DJ Skizz is set to release his highly anticipated debut producer album,B.Q.E. (Brooklyn-Queens Experience) on 6-23-2013. This track is a video single for that same project and as you can hear from this joint, it’s that grimy and gritty hip hop that we all love and appreciate. I especially love to see Big Noyd on a track again. I have always enjoyed that flow and it’s like son hasn’t aged a bit since the late 90s! I am definitely looking forward to this project.
I have been a fan of Taiyamo Denku but obviously I was sleeping when this video dropped. I love the beat on this joint. The keys are being hit hard by Grime Lab. Denku’s flow is a little on the maniacal side on this joint. It has a “rubber room” feel. This is the first single from his forthcoming album, RADIOOCTAVE.
Yes. Yes. PremRock dropping a video for Singapore off of his highly acclaimed album, Mark’s Wild Years. If you are a frequent visitor here, you will have heard me mention this album several times as one of the best last year. It’s an album that has a life of it’s own.
