This is the kind of music we need in 2014. We need new faces bringing new takes on that traditional hip hop flavor. I really enjoyed this track from Grand Opus which is comprised of beatmaker Centric and emcee Joc Scholar. The track has that nostalgic feel without sounding a bit dated. I hope there is a bigger project attached to this song.
Bo Jankans – 1 More Shot (ft. Lyriciss)
Bo Jankans sent over this new video from The MotorMouth EP (which I am pretty sure is not out yet) but both songs I have seen/heard have been really dope. He’s got a unique style and outlook plus he has Scrilla Ventura. And if you have Scrilla Ventura on the boards, anything is musically possible. Also joining the mix is the DMV stalwart, Lyriciss…
Skeezo – Stuck in da 90’s (prod by Alterbeats) (Video)
Skeezo releases the title track in video format from his most current EP, Stuck in da 90s which is produced by the Hip Hop Dependency Producer Of The Year, Alterbeats. The song is a time machine for those of us who made our come up in the 1990s with Skeezo littering the track with references from the era. Make sure you peep the EP, but also make sure you check his other jawn, Face Value as well.
ethemadassassin – Elements (Video)
You can tell ethemadassassin is a rhyme vet. His flow is extremely refined and dare I say, authentic. There’s not an oz of new jack. He makes you feel these words he’s spitting. Elements as a whole is a high energy head nodder so protect that neck. This cut can be found on his most recent album, Soul On Fire.
Boogieman Dela – What If (Video)
Boogieman Dela poses a bunch of ‘what ifs’ to his listeners over some bluesy hip hop production. This is some intelligent rhyme writing which is exposed by an excellent flow. I’ve heard Boogieman Dela a couple of times and walked away impressed with every listen. I hope to hear more new music soon.
Mr. Stroke & Dro Pesci – War Report (ft. Shabaam Sahdeeq) (Video)
I got another banger for you all today. This one comes from the combination of Mr. Stroke and Dro Pesci off of their Real In The Field album that dropped back in October of last year. The track features that hard NYC flavor, with a genuine NYC vet in the form of Shabaam Sahdeeq. I am going to have to check out this album some time. Definitely seems like my flavor!
Tug McRaw – The Call (ft. L Perfex) (Video)
Everyone duck! Shots fired! Damn this song from Tug McRaw is hot! It’s that rapid fire heat to make the winter a little more bearable. Y’all are going to love this joint. Trust! I can’t wait to hear some more music from the man.
One Dae – Daes & Times (feat. C-Rayz Walz) (Video)
Pretty fresh video delivered from the incredibly well crafted album from One Dae, Daes & Times. I am going to try and get a review done for the album as I think it’s pretty mandatory at this point. The album knocks hard. If you enjoy this track with the legend C-Rayz Walz then for sure you are going to bump Dae’s album. Don’t sleep!
Meta P – Animal (ft. Block McCloud and Fresh Jones) (Video)
Meta P gives the listeners something a little different with the track, Animal. Initially you might think that he is dropping something “animalistic” on the mic or an “animal” in the streets. But those tracks are a dime a dozen. He delivers a track who’s content is about protecting animals, in particular pitbulls. He spits about the topic from a lot of different perspectives.
His album, Evolution, is dropping on March 31st so stay tuned for that.
Matt Maddox – No Country For Old Men (Video)
Matt Maddox is from a different generation of emcee and he’s tired of the climate in today’s music industry and not afraid to mince words about it. Maddox has a new album dropping on February 25th entitled, Righteous Fury.
