I am really glad to see Verbal Kent make moves in the last couple of years. This is a man who has been paying dues for a long time, and his recognition is long overdue. He’s got a very recognizable voice, so every time he hits the mic there’s no questioning the identity. His rhyme writing has also elevated throughout the years. This time he teams up with the legendary, Khrysis for the song, Rapanomics, which is the jump off for their album, Sound Of The Weapon, which drops on February 28th. Peep.
Single You Out: Macabeats x Cool FD – Pardon My French
This is the title track from Macabeats and Cool FD’s collaborative album dropping on January 20th. This joint definitely builds anticipation for the full project. Macabeats has a very crisp and smooth delivery and I love the sound Cool FD crafted within the scale of his production. This is definitely a good way to set off 2014.
Single You Out: Revalation – Death To All Fakes (ft. Senica Da Misfit & Don Streat) (prod. By DJ Brans)
This is a DJ Brans produced banger off of Revalation’s new project, Feature Presentation. The sound is live. DJ Brans always delivers on these tough tracks while Rev, joined by Senica Da Misfit and Don Streat, make sure to represent to the fullest. I have to say, I have never heard Senica Da Misfit previously, but his bars leave a lasting impression. I would be interested in hearing some more material.
Single You Out: MIZ & Page Turner – What You Need (I Got It) – (prod. Page Turner)
One of my last few posts before these end of the year accolades come through. This is a dope cut from Miz and Page Turner. The production is strong with the banging keys from producer Page Turner, and Miz really adds a lot of energy on the mic and a very conversational flow. I am definitely going to be checking for these guys in 2014.
Single You Out: CYNE – Tears For Uriah
CYNE is back with a new album, All My Angles Are Right, dropping in 2014, and Tears For Uriah is the first single from the upcoming project. CYNE has a sound all unto itself, it’s hard to describe and impossible to duplicate.
Single You Out: SdotKeen – Simply Thinking (prod. by Cool FD)
Some new freshness has been gift wrapped via Cool FD from Orleans, France. You remember, Cool FD right? We did this write up on him not that long ago? Well he’s been back in the lab and he and Sdotkeen have been cooking up something delicious. This is almost like getting taking to church on a Friday. It’s a very soulful joint. As for Sdotkeen, I am going to have to check for him some more because once he got started, he really held your attention with the gift. Please partake!
Single You Out: Little Vic & 9FIVE – Boulevard Blues (prod. Velotz)
Hopefully this is the first of many dope tracks that we will hear off of Little Vic’s, The Reaper. Vic teams up with long time collaborator Velotz on the production and shares the mic with 9Five. The result is a bluesy rhythm riddled with introspection, food for thought, and dope wordplay. Enjoy!
Single You Out: Apollo The Great – Rio De Janeiro (prod. Linzprag)
New music from Apollo The Great just before the Christmas holiday is gift enough for me. Rio De Janeiro is produced by Linzprag and will leave even the most fickle of hip hop fans flabbergasted. Apollo The Great’s new album is dropping in early 2014 and is entitled, New Jersey Joe. Stay tuned for that but also make sure you check his highly acclaimed album from 2012, Hennessy Diaries.
Single You Out: Big O – Tall Tales (ft. Absoulut Karnage & Adlib)
Another single from Big O’s new album Gravel Engravement. Absoulut and Adlib join the track over this 4th Assassin beat exposing those emcees who exaggerate their life in one way or another. Make sure you check out the album, and also check out our interview HERE.
Single You Out: Donnie Darko -Train Of Thought Pt. 2 (ft. Mr. Grimm) (Produced By DJ Bless)
Always good to get some new music from the homie Donnie Darko and the NSD camp. Darko is really an underrated emcee who spits with a lot of vigor and when he teams up with the production from DJ Bless, heads should just hit the deck. This track is a single from Darko’s forthcoming album, Redemption so keep a look out for that on 02/04/2013.
