My first impression of this cut: It’s a triumphant f*%k you to the doubters, haters, and unbelievers. February supplies the horns which our reminiscent of a king’s coronation. The track just has an epic feel. Meanwhile Lungz reminds the listener that rocking with him is a privilege not to be taken lightly. It definitely is bragadoccio with some flair and bravado…and I am cool with that.
Apollo The Great wages the war of lust vs. fidelity. The video approach to this song is him explaining in verse with this main girl why he wants his cake and eat it too. And just like any man, he must deal with the consequences. It’s the Wages of Sin!
Lastly, check the damn Hennesey Diaries. It was the album of the year last year here.
If Diamond D remixes your joint it is definitely worth hearing. I love how the beat flips in between verses. I can only guess that the piano laced funk is the original beat by Kid Tsunami and then, more obviously, the darker boom bap is the work of the legend Diamond D.
The other component of this track that I am diggin is that it features Yesh. I have been a long time fan of his and it’s good to see him doing work. As I understand it, he might have some more music coming out. I am going to be looking for that. He has a classic flow. Very easy going.
The other thing I am checking out is Kid Tsunami’s album, The Chase. His production is dope and that album has a grip of legends on it. Peep game.!
It’s smooth and hype at the same time. The drums and the pace are uptempo, but with that soulful sample, it gives the song a different flavor. Definitely enjoyable hip hop.
Back Up is the second single off of Dragon Fli Empire’s forthcoming album, Mission Statement which is slated for an October release. That may seem like a ways away but don’t worry it will be here before you know it.
Wordspit goes off in a tirade on this track. Oh you were offended? Tough Luck. I doubt that he cared. He was jut intent on going off and letting the listeners and the competitors have it. Jut one of those tracks where a man lets loose and shows his skill. It is a short but enjoyable prelude to his forthcoming project, Wrath Of The Illest due out this summer.

Two notable forces have collided to provide you with the project, Occam’s Razor. One is noted Chicago lyricist Qwel, and the other is underrated New York based group, Grey Sky Appeal. I have been a fan of both, but Grey Sky Appeal is one of those groups I wish more people knew about. Their skill is unheralded but really merit notoriety as they can spit with the best of them and have a knack for dope production.
It seems that this project started with Qwel rocking over some unfinished beats from GSA’s producer Taj during a tour in New England. Grey Sky Appeal then took to build upon Qwel’s work, add their verses, and finish the production to create Occam’s Razor. It’s not your typical EP. You are really going to have to pay attention to the intricate lyricism or these bars could easily pass you by.

I am glad I caught this video from Pawz One. Breeze supplies a nice beat and Pawz One has rhymes in abundance. He challenges people to open their eyes and not just buy what the matrix (the government and the media) is selling you.
This is coming off if his album, slated to drop in the next few days I imagine, which is also called, Face The Facts. So be on standby for that…
As Benefit readies his next “timing” project, Timing Of A Godfather, he unleashed Killa Kannibals. A cut in which heavy hitters, PH and Famoso join him on the mic. It’s got all of those head-nodding qualities that you are all always craving. In particular check that third verse from Famoso. He incorporates some Trayvon Martin and Magna Carta / Holy Grail references that definitely capture your attention.
Twisted Irish back in the building! This cut is off of the 2012 album, HEATHEN SEASON. There are many bangers on that project, of which this is one. Born Unique teaming up with Wais P hit the water with some dope rhymes in tow, rocking over some Pete Twist production.
I first want to give out a shout out to another blog, TheHipHopHead for connecting people (including myself) to dope banging hip hop. That blog really is my favorite and one that closely resembles the taste you will find on HHD.
It’s obvious that the blog has built a repertoire with Red Eye and DJ Qvali and that’s a good thing. Red Eye constantly creates bangers. You can check his album review I did a while back for St. Fatrick’s Day to get a sample of my thoughts.
This track just builds off of the dope formula found on that release. Crackin’ beats from DJ Qvali and unfiltered tough lyrics from Red Eye.
