This Friday has been comprised of a steady diet of dope shit and this single from First Division is no different. These guys are dropping that no-frills boom bap sound directly on eardrums. This time the guest list is comprised of Mr. Authentic himself, Supastition. The beat by BeatWyze can certainly be considered a banger as well.
First Division’s EP, The Critical Path Pt. 2 drops on May 27th. So mark that on your calendar.
Croup and Supastition continue to build off of their recent collaborative EP, Honest Living. The Declaration will however make it onto Croup’s upcoming album, Circles. The project will drop on April 29th which is just around the corner. Until then you can take Supastition’s bars as gold…this is a statement piece!
Supastition and producer Croup are bringing us the good vibes with the track Nothing Like It. Supa is the most relate able emcees doing it right now. His rhyme writing always seems very similar to my own thought process. Make sure you grab the DL of, Honest Living, if you have not as of yet.
Supastition’s Honest Living which is entirely produced by Croup is due out on Tuesday, but to wt one’s appetite, he released the single, Eardrum. One of the things I have always liked about Supa is his candid demeanor and view points intertwined with an incredible refined talent to rock mics. He is the people’s emcee.
Disclaimer: It is hard and challenging to pick 50 tracks from the thousands upon thousands that dropped this year. It is merely an attempt to list my favorite cuts of 2012. 1) Theo 3 – Enticement I always agonize over the best EPs, because I think the shorter releases are always going to be more tightly construed then longer releases. Thusly there are doper, more potent releases, in this format. But there are was not a doper five songs put together for an EP than Enticement. It features production from Psycho Les and The Audible Doctor, and some really great lyricism.
2) Supastition – The Blackboard Don’t call it a comeback! When Supastition decided to re-enter the realm of making music, I felt uplifted. He’s simply one of my favorite emcees. With The Blackboard, he came back in rare form with some great production, lyricism, and concepts. The release it the total package and a forbearance of what’s to come.
3) Grey Sky Appeal – Occam’s Razor Grey Sky Appeal have such a unique and clever sound and although this EP was crafted on a tour back in 2011, it didn’t see the light of day until 2013. You can check out our full review of the project HERE.
4) Skeezo – Face Value In terms of sheer knockability (yes, that’s a word), no EP hit harder than this one. This is EP is chocked full of bangers with superlative production on raw rhymes. There’s also a lot of replayability in this short project. Skeezo is one of those names that should be at the forefront when it comes to emcees to watch for 2014.
5) Nutso x 5th Seal – I Plead The 5th – In the end, this EP was impossible to leave off the list even with the stiff competition. It has one of the best tracks of the year in PAIN and also contains the certified bangers, Blood & Bones and Planet Of the Apes. 5th Seal and Nutso prove to be one of the best producer/emcee collaborations in 2013.
This video single is coming off of Supastition’s The Black Board EP which dropped about six months ago. It is still one of the strongest releases this year. This track is particularly impressive with very ethereal production from The Dirty Art Club and a dope story line reminiscent of the movie, The Sixth Sense. Make sure you pick up this EP if you have not done so already.
Little did Supastition know where his musical prowess was going to take him, and hence we have the track, Outcome. This is actually a bonus track available on the CD version of The Black Board EP, which we reviewed here.
The track, like all other tracks from Supastition is dope. His relatability and introspection have created a genuine relationship with the musician and his fans. The track is produced by Microphono.
Elementality producer, Analogic links up with the now super-busy Supasition. Ever since Supastition announced his return to music he has been a very busy man. This track however is the first single off of Analogic’s forthcoming album, The Booth Shall Set You Free. (Very catch title!) The two have good chemistry together and Supa lyrically takes exception to politics in general and the politics of music. Dope cut.

I remember when I was told that Supastition was retiring as an emcee. I was demoralized. I thought to myself that he was a casualty of an unsupportive audience got tired of not being paid for the quality of his work. I was fed up with “fans” of hip hop. It was at that point that I started working more vigilantly on getting this blog started. I wanted to promote dope hip hop artists and push the fan base to contribute to the art they so love and enjoy. In essence Supastition is literally a major factor as to why I am typing this now.
