Check The Discography: Reks

Reks-480

I have been a fan of Reks since I first heard the album, Along Came The Chosen.  He’s  a real man, a real emcee, who is creating real music.   There are no smoke and mirrors.  There’s no fancy cars and glamorous women in the videos. There’s no flashing of the cash.  When the game changed, Reks remained true to himself and the foundation of hip hop.  He kept on doing him and making music for those who could appreciate that. He’s worked with some of the most renowned producers and illest emcees.  In return for his great musical contribution, HHD wants to repay the favor and highlight his illustrious career thus far.  This Check The Discography is  for a man who is more than deserving.  So Reks, we salute you, your work, and all the energy you put into it.  As a fan, if you don’t have any of these albums, or mixtapes, make sure you do yourself a favor and cop these.  A couple of things before you start clicking: The majority of these releases are sold in online stores, so please follow the links and support the man.  Secondly,  Happy Holidays was released as a mixtape almost a decade ago and I can find no working links so if you have access, holler at me.  Lastly, the link to the Rekless album is to CD Universe where you can only buy the physical album for approximately $60.00.  I say go for it!

Single You Out: Reks – Unholy (ft. Fredro Starr & Ruste Juxx)

As Reks and Hazardis Soundz prepare to unleash their Eyes Watching God album in July, they unleash what is sure to be one of the years biggest of bangers.  Soundz turns it up with horns and an interesting synth backdrop.  Reks, Fredro Starr, and Ruste Juxx take you through a little piece of hell with each of their bars.  I love how the track gets a little more low key on Juxx’s verse as he is one of the most high energy emcees in the game. A really great collabo altogether.

Note:

This is the first review of an album that we have done for Shabaam Sahdeeq.    That’s odd because we have posted a ton of singles for various other projects, but this is really his first viable album in a long while.  He has stayed busy with a bunch of mixtapes and guest features, all the while creating and crafting his own album,  Keepers Of The Lost Art.   The album has actually been a long time in the making, as I first heard this album titled a couple of years ago.

Note:

This review for AWKWORD’s World View has been a long time coming.   It’s a long time coming for two reasons:  1) AWKWORD has been working on his magnum opus for well over three years 2)  I took another two months to digest the project in between other releases.  But here we are at the moment of reckoning to determine what makes World View special, or if it’s indeed special at all.

Single You Out: Reks x Hazardis Soundz – 54

artworks-000071187595-kdnzfe-t500x500

Good lawd!  Two things:  Reks flow and wordplay on this track are microphone phenomenal!  And in case you didn’t know, 54 pertains to the amount of bars Reks just dropped on you.   The second item up for discussion is when was hte last time you heard a producer absolutely KILL IT with a dusty horn sample?!?  Hazardis Soundz just did that to you…wow.

New collaborative album from the artists is due out sometime this spring (ambiguous, I know) entitled Eyes Watching God.

N.B.S. – Til’ The World Ends (ft. Reks) (produced by Alkota) (Video)

N.B.S. takes it from the salon back into the streets and  then proceeds to sever heads over a hard Alkota produced rhythm, with an assist from R-E-K-S.   This joint will instantly be added to my rotation.  It just knocks.  I just copped their new album, The Smokefest, earlier today.  I haven’t listened to it yet, but there’s no doubt that the albums going to be filled with bangers.
