Note:

I can’t think of an album in recent memory that was this long that maintained this much consistency as does God’s Will from William Cooper.  When listening to this album you will notice a cohesiveness you typically don’t associate with a project of this length.  In my mind that’s just one of the things that makes this album special.    There are so many individual components that contribute to making this album a must listen so let’s take a look at some of those finer points.

Single You Out: Adlib – Destro (ft. Ill Bill) (prod. by Rob The Viking)

Adlib has linked up with Rob The Viking of Swollen Members for his new album, Teenagers From Marz.   Adlib has been making great music for years so don’t let this song surprise you.   But linking up with Rob The Viking for production definitely should make hay in getting his name buzzing even more.   Adlib always has an upfront, no holds bared style, that falls front in center regardless of the production.  It’s time people start taking notice. Oh not to be lost on you, this track features Ill Bill.

I first heard about El Gant when I saw him in the super group, Infinity Gauntlet.  I hears his verse on the track Anti-Angelz and wrote his name down on a piece of paper so as not to forget.  I then caught him in the group KAMALA and those songs were incredible.   He released a mixtape, and now we have arrived at the time he drops his album, Beast Academy.

Note:

This review for AWKWORD’s World View has been a long time coming.   It’s a long time coming for two reasons:  1) AWKWORD has been working on his magnum opus for well over three years 2)  I took another two months to digest the project in between other releases.  But here we are at the moment of reckoning to determine what makes World View special, or if it’s indeed special at all.

Top 50 Songs (2013)

Disclaimer:  It is hard and challenging to pick 50 tracks from the thousands upon thousands that dropped this year.  It is merely an attempt to list my favorite cuts of 2012.  Click the links to listen to the song!  I think it’s a great list.  There were a lot of great songs crafted this year and I know I left off some good ones.  I listened to 5,000+ tracks from 2012 alone this year, so as an artist, if you made this list you know you are on the forefront of my iTunes!

Note:

When was the last time that you positively impacted by an album?   Never?  Months?  Years?   Well, I felt pretty damn good after I finished the first few listens of Jermiside and Danny Diggs’ new album, Quiet As Kept. Jermiside litters the album with introspection, insight, personality, and positivity.   He blends a dose of real world pragmatism with an optimistic nature, while Danny Diggs keeps the music very organic and in more than one case…therapeutic.

Ill Bill – Acid Reflux (Video)

Ill Bill and Large Professor connect for this video single off of Bill’s most recent project, The Grimy Awards.  I love how Large Professor links the Gravediggaz sample into the cut.  That’s vintage material.   The video itself is trippy, while Bill’s content keeps you next to the speaker so you can pick up on what he is going to say next.  He’s always in tune with socio-political material so he can drop that knowledge.

Swollen Members – Beautiful Death Machine (2013)

Tracklist:

01. Inception
02. Death to You (ft. Ill Bill, Slaine, & Vinnie Paz)
03. BAX WAR
04. King of Diamonds
05. Juggernaut
06. The Difference

08. Mercenary
09. Colossal Beasts – (ft. Esoteric, Celph Titled, & Apathy)
10. Almost Famous
11. Death Warrant
12. Fear – (ft. Snak the Ripper)

Note:

Swollen Members has teased me for years with single after single for previous albums alluding to that elusive and dark sound that harkens back to their debut effort, Balance. What kept on happening is the singles would all ring true to that “dark” formula, but those previous albums would fall short of the overall sound that I craved. Sometimes it’s not fair to judge an emcee or a group on that original sound as things are supposed to evolve.  But I am only human, and in the case of Beautiful Death Machine,  Madchild, Prevail, and Rob The Viking have come full circle.
