Soul Khan gives an already banging cut the video treatment t\and that Brown Bag humor really comes out in this one. So far every video I have seen from Khan proves to be very entertaining. This cut is coming off his recently released EP, Acknowledgement.
Interview: IDE (of Creative Juices Music) (2011)
Creative Juices is one of the preeminent crews/labels in independent hip hop. Their discography is constantly growing. The roster of artists is getting bigger and better. Their reputation in the game is solid among both fans and contemporaries. Most importantly, they are associated with quality. And while Creative Juices is a collective effort, one man has used his vision to create an indelible imprint on the label. IDE has been the driving force for making Creative Juices Music what it is today. He is a man who has sacrificed a lot for his dream that slowly but surely is being realized. Oh and did I forget to mention he’s a dope artist?
Check the interview to find out where CJM has been, where they are at, and where they are going…

Single You Out: Mr. Live – Lay You Flat
Do you know this man? Mr. Live put out quite a few dope 12″s back in the late 1990s and released an album on a French Imprint a few years ago. I am a big fan of his. This beat I am sure you will find familiar but Live’s unique cadence and voice make this refreshing. I am not sure if he will be releasing material consistently but i thought this one was at least noteworthy.
9DM & Lawz Spoken – You’ll Never Be Famous (2011)

I was sifting through Itunes a couple of Tuesdays ago and came across this release which was a pretty random find. I knew Lawz Spoken had just worked with Only One on a project and I wanted to hear what this one sounded like. I was really blown away with what was coming out of the speakers. Lawz Spoken laced incredible beat after incredible beat and 9DM just laid them to rest. The phrase “This album goes hard!” is really overused but this album does indeed, go hard.
Single You Out: Gutta & Nems – War (ft. Block McCloud and Fresh Jones) b/w Tommy Boy (Gutta)
These songs are just nasty! Nems and Gutta team up for the track War and Tommy Boy is a solo track by Gutta. Nems is just coming off the release of his album, Filthy Fly Shit which has a number of bangers on it and it’s good to hear Gutta again on the mic. His album, Heads Will Roll dropped three years ago. It was produced by Blue Sky Black Death and was vastly underrated. It still is something that I will play from time to time. His style has a grimy ferocity to it. These new songs bode well for what is to come. Both cuts have beats that knock. Gutta has a new mixtape dropping soon so be on the lookout for that.

Single You Out: Cold Heat – Raising The Bar (ft. Blacastan, Craig G) b/w Spanish Guitar (ft. Nico The Beast, SR, Neta, Meyhem Lauren)
It’s Cold Heat, baby! Jak Danielz and Johnnie Walker are back with some more burnerz for your IPod. Both of these tracks are coming off of their forthcoming album, Raising The Bar. That album should be dropping on July 12th. If you are not familiar with their previous work it is time to do so. They really put together some great music. They are known for working with some of hip hop’s finest artists, but don’t get it twisted. Jak Danielz is an iillll spitter. He has a flow that makes you do a double take and these tracks are no different. Enjoy these jawns until the album drops, then be sure to cop. (These come courtesy of Dot Got It and Rock The Dub respectively.)

When I caught wind of this album I didn’t really embrace the listening opportunity with open arms. It sat in my hard drive for quite a while but then I heard the lead single from the album, My Cadillac, and my disposition changed. That is a really fun hip hop song. Fun hip hop hasn’t been en vogue for quite sometime and this song is very distinct. From that launching point I started playing the album and from the jump I could tell that this artist was going to be a breath of fresh air for my Itunes.

Single You Out: Kontact & Black Knight – Free
Kontact and Black Knight have been representing the DMV well on a ton of mixtapes in the last year or so. I can’t wait to hear their own mixtape, Eye Of The Storm. That will apparently drop on July 25th. Their songs have been incredibly consistent, and on Free you get something that is just special. The production is powerful and really can’t be described in words. Lyrically they exhibit great prowess, again staking claim that the DMV is a leader, not a follower in this hip hop biz. Congrats to them, their grind is officially paying off…

Single You Out: BBAS – Get Ready (DJ Brace Remix) w/ The Agenda (Marco Polo Remix)
Oh what’s up with the Brown Bag Allstars? As usual…ALOT. These guys are always making moves either as unit or as individuals and this time they hit you as a collective. Brown Bag Season Vol. 1 is a collection of tracks both past and present. One of the things you will notice is that there a number of remixes on the project and they have released two of them for your listening pleasure. Of course they are free…
The Get Ready Remix by DJ Brace is my favorite track off of the project. The lyrics and production are nothing short of amazing. The other cut is a remix by Marco Polo of the track The Agenda. Anyone who is familiar with Marco Polo’s work knows to expect brilliance.
Check these tracks and be sure to cop the album. You won’t regret it one iota.
