This was sitting in my inbox from this weekend along with some other less than stellar music. This track caught me at the right time though. Kev Brown provides the jazzy instrumental (“Can’t Stay Away”) and I like James John’s flow. Pretty dope stuff.
Here’s a dope joint that I think has been overlooked in the blogging community. If I see a Blame One feature, I immediately take notice. And this joint was worth taking a look. It’s a pure hip hop joint that relies on great lyricism on one end and some classic horns and drums on the other. This track is featured on DJ Limegreen’s new album, The Green Room.
I get the distinct feeling that this album is going to garner some ‘Album Of The Year’ consideration. To be honest, I haven’t heard a subpar track from the duo. Illy.

We have another winner. This is one of the few singles I received this weekend that I am really feeling. I like the production and I like the energy represented in N.VS. He’s got a really nice flow that’s not super predictable or ordinary.

I remember this! This cut is off of the highly slept on, The Liberation Of The Monster. I love the pounding keys and bass line as Khingz lets loose his thoughts. I really should have noted this album back when it dropped because it really is a dope listen. RoQ’y TyRaiD hit me up with his new single Bye Felicia. I must admit, I have heard his name before but I have never heard his music before, but I am glad I gave this one a spin. It’s dope and something that is going to stick with you. And it’s always a good thing to enlist Chaundon for a verse. Quality music…
Damn, this is some heat! The beat by Woodenchainz and these flows are monstrous. The visuals and the music are on point. It all just smacks gritty. If you are feeling this cut then be on the lookout for Kevlaar 7’s new album, Die Ageless.

There are a lot of artists scratching and clawing for recognition. Many of these artists are gifted. Many artists we cover on HHD possess some of the qualities that are important to being a great emcee. Locksmith, however, has all of those qualities. He is the consummate lyricist. He has total control of his delivery. He can give it to you uptempo or down. He can flip this or that beat. It doesn’t matter. He is intelligent. As an emcee, there is not a chink in the armor. But that alone does not make a great album. We’ve all seen lyricists come and go and never really reach their musical potential.
There’s a new collective that’s putting out some dope music and it seems spearheaded by Fokis and Stryfe. I just posted their last single, Pay What You Owe, a couple of days ago and this joint really just picks up where that one left off. The track has excellent production and some really slick flows.
