You may remember The 17th from our feature on him earlier this year. The man has a crazy amount of talent. And if you think that this cut is dope, make sure you check that EP. It’s free (now available on iTunes but worth every penny) and was rated the best EP of 2012 right here on HHD. Support artists like The 17th, Spoke In Words, and Fokis because we too are tired of the Rubbish.
Single You Out: Typ iLL – Godly Bounce (prod. by DJ Concept)
Little Vic once commented how impressive Typ ill’s flow was, and on Godly Bounce you can surely see why he made that remark. DJ Concept handles the production for this cut. This was the last single before he released his EP, Basic Training which officially dropped TODAY. Check it out!
Single You Out: Rahim Samad – Have Discipline
Here’s another new name to my inbox, and I am glad to offer it up to you to listen. This joint from Rahim Samad is nice. Again, some guys are just blessed with a voice to be an emcee, and Samad qualifies. He rips this banger from producer KeyBoy (again, another dope producer from France? What’s in the water over there?) The rhymes are also of the highest quality. The whole vibe is reminiscent of something from 1994. Ain’t nothing wrong with that. As fat as I know this is not attached to a bigger project, but I am interested in hearing more from him.
KAMALA (DJ Ready Cee – El Gant – Parakhan) – Modelo Music (Video)
Short of that Nino Bless track, Rhyme Of The Year, this might be the filthiest flow of the year. El Gant goes anywhere and everywhere with his lyrics, from Kurt Vonnegut to the Mariana Trench (now that’s deep). I am not sure who the responsible party is for this beat so I am just going to go with Parakhan DJ Ready Cee. If that’s the case, then the man gets major props from me. This is a definite head nodder. You won’t be able to help it. Check out their self-titled EP, HERE.
Breeze Brewin’ – ROADRAGE (Video)
I was hoping to see that this song was attached to a bigger project that was soon to be released but it appears that this joint may just be a gift to the masses from Breeze Brewin’ from The Juggaknots camp. The production comes courtesy of Smoke Signals. And remember….don’t let anger consume you.

Spit Gemz gives the audience a video ‘double-tap’ with the combination of visuals for Nelson Muntz and Mystic Moves. Gemz is always giving the people the dopest of material. On November 10th he releases his next project for FREE, END THE TV.

Single You Out: Rite Hook – Lose Control (ft. Action Bronson) (C-Lance Remix)
I am not sure if I even remember the original. I will have to go back and check for it in my iTunes. But what I do know for sure, is that this track is a beautiful piece of work. It’s easily one of the top five tracks I have heard from Rite Hook. C-Lance really gave this track a ton of character with this joint. Definitely one of those songs that will stick in your head (like so many Rite Hook songs do when you listen to them). The new album, From The Wrong, drops in a couple of weeks. Be ready.
Scuare – Alphabet Soup (2013)
This one of these moments where I am proud to live in the ATX. There are a few dope artists in the area, but for the most part I could count them all on one hand, and then comes along Scuare. HHD actually featured his video single, One, back earlier this year. What struck me was of course the great production from Tom Bombadil, but also the heavy lyricism from Scuare. I say heavy, because there is an intellectual quality about his music, but also a cadence and flow that keeps things interesting. It’s vastly different and needed in this area. In an era where little is remarkable and much of hip hop is standard fare, Alphabet Soup offers a different approach to hip hop music. And that’s what we are about here on HHD…innovation inspired in the culture of hip hop.
Now with any album I have my favorites, and here on Alphabet Soup I tend to favor the following: One, Gone Away, General Lee, and Recursive. But give it a listen and see for yourself.
Jermiside & Danny Diggs: Victory Is Mine (Video)
Jermiside is a relate able artist. The lyricism is just something I can apply to my own life. I love that. It’s like reading a book where you identify with the lead character. This is really how the entire album rides. Danny Diggs gives you soothing rhythms while Jermiside drops gems. Does that sound worthwhile to you? If it does than Quiet As Kept is in your lane and will probably be the next album I review.
