If your place in this world is a haughty one, watch your head piece because Matt Maddox and Sicknature are coming for that melon. King Killer is a high paced killing spree that can soon be found on Matt Maddox’s new album, Righteous Fury which drops on February 25th.
Single You Out: Kool G Rap, Maffew Ragazino, Typ iLL- Drive Slow (prod DJ Supa Dave)
This is the lead single off of the DCM compilation, Opportunity Knocks Part 2. The track features some some heavy hitters in the form of Kool G Rap, Maffew Ragazino, and Typ iLL rocking over some DJ Supa Dave production. Hopefully this new project will be here sooner rather than later because we are in desperate need for some new dope here at HHD.
Grand Opus – Forever
This is the kind of music we need in 2014. We need new faces bringing new takes on that traditional hip hop flavor. I really enjoyed this track from Grand Opus which is comprised of beatmaker Centric and emcee Joc Scholar. The track has that nostalgic feel without sounding a bit dated. I hope there is a bigger project attached to this song.
Bo Jankans – 1 More Shot (ft. Lyriciss)
Bo Jankans sent over this new video from The MotorMouth EP (which I am pretty sure is not out yet) but both songs I have seen/heard have been really dope. He’s got a unique style and outlook plus he has Scrilla Ventura. And if you have Scrilla Ventura on the boards, anything is musically possible. Also joining the mix is the DMV stalwart, Lyriciss…
2 Man Cypher – Project 48 (Video)
2 Man Cypher released the video for Project 48 in conjunction with their new album, Queen City Bastards. The album is one of the hardest hitting pieces of music in a long time. Project 48 really illustrates the chemistry between Sleep and Cocaine Chris. They execute the exchanges really well over this Dope Antelope production.
I am going to have a full review of the album done by early next week. You really need to check it out. It will grab an instant place in your musical rotation.
The Absouljah – Nighttime Dwelling (ft. Spicco) (prod. by DJ Low Cut)
The Absouljah’s new album, Dim The Light, is out now. I have been on the man to release this project for probably about a year now and it finally arrived January 8th. I will have a full review of the project coming soon but meanwhile I wanted to break you off with a single that DJ Low Cut sent me and produced so you can get a feel for the album. If you are feeling this, make sure you cop the project. I feel that The Absouljah has that unique blend of streets tailored in intellect so def worth the price.
Single You Out: Macabeats x Cool FD – The City (ft. Ahhabyam)
Are you guys ready for this album? Cool FD is channeling his inner Hall & Oates with this smooth saxophone filled track. This is one of those ‘lean back and chill’ kind of joints. You can sit back and absorb what Macabeats is spittin’. When this album drops it’s definitely going to be a coming out party for both Cool FD and Macabeats. People are going to have to recognize the talent of both individuals b/c every track I have heard from the duo has been excellent. Pardon My French is hitting in three days.
Skeezo – Stuck in da 90’s (prod by Alterbeats) (Video)
Skeezo releases the title track in video format from his most current EP, Stuck in da 90s which is produced by the Hip Hop Dependency Producer Of The Year, Alterbeats. The song is a time machine for those of us who made our come up in the 1990s with Skeezo littering the track with references from the era. Make sure you peep the EP, but also make sure you check his other jawn, Face Value as well.
Single You Out: Soul Khan – Supreme Righteous
Soul Khan was sorely missed in 2013. He did put out a few songs and a revamped EP but we so wanted more because as fans we are selfish bastards. Well, the song Supreme Righteous certainly is vintage Soul Khan. The pace of the track is certainly deliberate as if Khan wants you to get each and every clever turn of phrase. He’s got quite a few lines on the track that include movie references which will take you a back. Quality music. The production is handled by Walker Swain.
Single You Out: Shabaam Sahdeeq – Conceited Confidence (prod. by Ran Reed)
I missed out on this one a few weeks ago and I am here to grab some redemption. Shabaam Sahdeeq show his elite status in the game by rocking over this smooth Ran Reed production. He calls out the emcees with the big vocabulary that can’t connect their words right and the fake thugs in drug dealers in one breath. Sahdeeq is one of the few names that I can think of who has consistent longevity in making hip hop music. I am pretty sure this cut is off of his forthcoming project. Be ready for that.
