Ok. This was all about the right timing here. Vers’tyle sent me this submission just as I was putting some posts together and doing some listening. I thought I would give it a chance. Ummm…he meets all the criteria and more for music that we post on HHD. He’s got the voice and the flow that capture the moment. If the idea of this video was draw the audience in, I think he more than accomplished his purpose. I want to hear more because he killed this “interlude”. There’s not too many new (new to me) artists that impress this much. I am going to be on the lookout for The Rogue EP very soon.
Ugly Heroes ( Apollo Brown x Verbal Kent x Red Pill) – Hero’s Theme (Video)
The Ugly Heroes give you that “every man music” with their video release of Hero’s Theme. You just listen to the lyrics and think…”Hey, these guys are talking about my life.” These artists are out here making the most of every moment. We should all take the lesson and maximize the day. You should start off by copping their self-titled album. Bang!
Ill Bill – Acid Reflux (Video)
Ill Bill and Large Professor connect for this video single off of Bill’s most recent project, The Grimy Awards. I love how Large Professor links the Gravediggaz sample into the cut. That’s vintage material. The video itself is trippy, while Bill’s content keeps you next to the speaker so you can pick up on what he is going to say next. He’s always in tune with socio-political material so he can drop that knowledge.
Spit Gemz – Certain Delegates (Video) (prod. by ONE-TAKE)
Spit Gemz, native New Yorker and fire spitter, is back with another video from his FVCK THE RADIO project. The man is drinking fire water these days with the inferno he delivers with each cut. I strongly suggest you cop his discography. He’s one of the few people keeping that grimy music for elevated minds.
Freestyle Fam – Bar Fights (Video)
We showcased the single a couple of weeks back. The song is supreme. The video is dope and the wordplay is tremendous. I can’t wait to hear a full length project from Freestyle Fam. It’s going to be that kind of nice. I can feel it.
Lyriciss – Vent (prod. by Numonics) (Video)
This is the lead single from J57 & Numonics’s upcoming collaboration project, LI FTW, featuring Maryland hip-hop artist Lyriciss. If you are a fan of the art, pay attention to how Lyriciss rides this beat. His timing is impressive. He slows it down, speeds it back up, but always remains on time. That’s an emcee right there…
Swolf – Live!!! (Video)
Ok. There are components of this song that would make me normally cringe but there is something about Swolf’s flow and lyricism that are captivating. At times he exhibits really superior wordplay, at some points the track (not him) digresses. He’s at his best spitting on the ills of the game and keeping it on that higher level. I think this cut is good enough to share with you so you can make your own decision, plus the homie reps the home state.
Emilio Rojas – Tomorrow Never Comes (Video)
When Emilio Rojas spits about that real life shit you just have to pay attention. Here he speaks on the hypocritical thoughts he is faced with as he contemplates the day when tomorrow never comes. This is just something we can all relate to, or maybe it’s just me. Also, the visuals especially towards the end seal the deal. His album, No Shame, No Regrets, drops on June 11th.
J’You – So Apparent (Video)
I the single for this song almost a month ago and I neglected to post it. I had it ready to go but just didn’t hit the “publish” button. So J’You gives me a chance at redemption by releasing the visuals for this track. He’s got an up front and in your face flow and delivery that screams IDGAF. I can get down with that. With that, the wordplay and the beat are all on par with our other postings on HHD. His album, June 16th, I am guessing drops…
Gensu Dean & Planet Asia – Faces On The Dollar (Video)
Another video dropping from Gensu Dean and Planet Asia’s collaborative album, Abrasions. Planet Asia is an artist that can really do no wrong in my mind. His flow, demeanor, and cadence make him a tough act to follow in any cipher. On this track he discusses the power of the almighty dollar.
