Crafsmen – Potion 21 (ft. Detective Dandridge) (Video)
Crafsmen. Remember the name. He is another lyricist that not too many people know about right now, but when you listen to his verses and how they flow you really gain an appreciation for him as an artist. He is a very unique talent on Poe Mack’s label, Mackstrumental. This is a great track from his project, Whichcraf?. I bought it when it came out and I strongly encourage you to do likewise. Dr. G on the beat and Detective Dandridge shares the mic duties so you know.
I Am Many – Attack Of The Machines (Video)
I Am Many is an interesting moniker for someone who is one of a kind. His artistry, content, and style are unique (to put it mildly). Attack Of The Machines is a track that can be found off of his latest project, DISOBEY. I honestly didn’t even know that he had something new out or you would have already heard about it by now. This song goes in perfect step with the title, DISOBEY. Attack Of The Machines isn’t just about the rise of technology and automation. It is also about the automation of hip hop in culture. We are programmed to carry ourselves a certain way and dress a certain way. Disengage.
Savage Brothers – Open Season (ft. Benihana Kenobi)
Every once in a while I want to listen to something ruthless. And that’s what this track Open Season is….ruthless. There’s not a whole lot of complexity going on here. The Savage Brothers and Benihana Kenobi don’t just imply a beat down…they are here to give it. The production credits go out to Chapter7.
Substance Abuse – Paper Tigers (ft. Myka 9 and Percee P) (Video)
This video surfaces from Substance Abuse’s latest album, Background Music. This track is old school and eclectic. What I diverse line up? You have SU teaming up with Myka 9 who has a style all unto himself, and Percee P who has an absolute tenacious delivery. The production takes me back to BDP era and has me feeling nostalgic. Perhaps we should check out this new album….
Planet Asia & Ras Kass – Kings (prod. by Numonics) (Video)
Two west coast legends (yes, legends) link up for this video single for the cut Kings. The production is handled by one of the most consistent beatsmiths currently doing his thing, Numonics. I love the beat, the lyrics, and the video concept. The wooden throne up in the club is very fitting. Ras Kass kills me with this line:
I cruxcify rappers, give em’ Calvary pain / Like Christ, y’all ni%$as suffer til our salary change
That was vintage Ras Kass. This cut can be found on J57 and Numonics joint venture, LI FTW, which is slated to drop…not soon enough.
Soul Khan – Morning Alone (Video)
I feel that few emcees are more beloved then Soul Khan. He’s got the unique voice. He went from battling to creating. He rolls with a talented group of gentleman. And he’s dropping some moving material. Morning Alone focuses on a woman dealing with the loss of a husband/boyfriend. It details the coping and the struggle. I would be hard pressed to spend a better four minutes other than watching this video.

MURDOC – Slaughter (ft. AGALLAH) (Video)
I just got done listening to Operation Restore Lyricism the other day and this was one of my favorite cuts. MURDOC and AGALLAH prove to be an adept combo with a similar, aggressive approach to gripping mics. I respect music like this to the fullest. It’s that “challenge-us-and-take-a-loss” music.
Single You Out: Toke – My House
Toke, the newest signee with DPSMG, is prepping the release of Fresh Out Da Box EP which is slated for an August release. This song shows a little diversity in Toke’s repetoire . He proves that he can make that lighthearted party jam in addition to dropping that tough stuff.
Chill Moody – Chains (Video)
I have been sleeping on Chill Moody. I just recently saw his video with Apollo The Great and started to catch on to his talent. This video is extremely well done. The use of lighting and the sense of desperation is telling. The subject matter is also pretty poignant. I am going to have to check out his album, RFM sooner rather than later.
