Single You Out: Reckonize Real – Beyond Recognition (ft. Reks and Mayhem)

Reckonize Real’s new album, Dopamine, is dropping  on October 29th and Beyond Recognition is another single from that project.  Reks and Mayhem (dude has been staying busy this year)  each throw an ill 16 but the beat on this track is what’s going to grab you.  In my mind the production sounds like a meld of hip hop and sounds from India.  Plus the cuts from  ToneDeff 2Cutz are precise and that adds the right finishing touch to the track.   This will stay in rotation for sure.

Single You Out: DJ Tray – Fire Power (ft. Saigon, Blaq Poet & GQ Nothin’ Pretty)

artworks-000056447525-b35xaj-t500x500

Fire Power is an appropriate name for this song.  The beat, samples, and scratches all add the appropriate level of intensity for these gritty emcees.   Saigon, Blaq Poet, and GQ Nothin’ Pretty all bring their unique styles and voices to the track and leave an indelible imprint.   There is an updated version of the track that adds a verse from King Magnetic and that will appear on DJ Tray’s forthcoming album, BWTG.

Single You Out: SGT. Over – Black Death (ft. Ransom)

Sarge

SGT. Over has been relentless in 2013 cranking out songs and readying us for his album in 2014, entitled, Big Music.   For the cut, Black Death, Sarge tags in the Jersey vet, Ransom, who is coming off his own success with the Statik Selektah produced album, The Proposal.  I am not sure who the producer is for the track as there is no credits, but the sound knocks.  Sarge and Ransom’s voice give the song a nice contrast.  I am sure you will feel this.

Friday Feature: Printz of Peepz – Lethally Artistic

PromoPic

This is the 2nd Installment of our Friday Feature series embracing the music of Printz Of Peepz. This time we bring you the cut Lethally Artistic from the album, P.o.P. Culture, which is produced by another artist we feature here whenever possible, Crafsmen.  The track has that dark Gotham back-alley vibe.   P.o.P. really exhibits a great flow and lyrical ability, particularly on that second verse.  Make sure you keep checking for him for the next two Fridays because we ain’t done yet!  Appreciate innovative minds and creative talent…

Single You Out: Jermiside & Danny Diggs – Victory Is Mine

cover

Jermiside drops the second single, Victory Is Mine, from his sophomore collaborative album with producer Danny Diggs, Quiet As Kept.  Jermiside is my favorite emcee from the talented Lessondary Crew (I probably said the same thing about Spec Boogie a year or so ago, but whatever.  It’s a tie).  He has a very smooth style that is only amplified with the production of Danny Diggs.   This song in particular is inspiring.  You truly can’t keep a good man down.

Quiet As Kept will be released October 22nd

Single You Out: MaLLy – Dead Art Painting

mally-strange-rhythm

MaLLy is a favorite of mine.  I find his sound very refreshing.  Perhaps this is even more refreshing as Last Word handles the production.  The vibe is a dark electronica that runs deep in sound.  A lot of layers going on here, but as a whole it allows MaLLy to showcase his turn of phrase and exceptional rhyme skills.   Strange Rhythm will hit the digital shelf on November 5th.

Friday Feature: Printz of Peepz (2013)

PopPic

This is one of those spur of the moment things that just felt right.  Printz of Peepz has been an active entity on my twitter line for the last month or two.  I simply thought he was a fellow blogger or a fan, but a couple of nights ago he put me onto a track that he created with fellow VA brethren, Crafsmen, called Lullaby.  I was impressed.  It made me seek out some other tunes from the man, and I liked what I heard.  He’s a young, talented artist who is trying to get his name and music heard and what better place to do that then on our long neglected Friday Feature column?

So for the next few Fridays you can expect to hear some music from P.o.P.  starting with that track, Lullaby.   Be sure to check him out on Twitter and Facebook and politic with a talented artist.

Single You Out: Koncept – Love Me (ft. Lollybone) (Prod. by Tranzformer)

Print

Just close your eyes and let Tranzformer’s piano keys and Lollybone’s soulful song just carry you away!   Oh wait a minute, let’s not forget Koncept’s bars, because he’s got bars.    This song is like 1920s flapper meets 1990s boom-bap.  A really nice break from the monotony by offering us a different sound entirely.  Koncept’s Live On EP, produced by Numonics, drops on October 22nd.
