Spotted a new artist that has a massive amount of talent and polish in his sound. That man is Matt Black. He has a new album out entitled, Oak Street Market. I asked him if I could release, Free Refills as a single on the site before I realized he had already made a video for the track. Perfect. I love the mix of the bass line and guitar on the track. Black has a laid back flow and deep voice that sounds perfect over the production.
Single You Out: Tha Soloist – Pay Homage (Dee Metto Remix)
I don’t like posting YouTube videos as singles, but I am going to make an exception for my man, Dee Metto. There evidentially is a remix contest put forth by Tha Soloist for producers to rework this track from his album with Trilian, Original Script. As you all know now Dee Metto’s work is highly regarded here on HHD and this is his take on the track. Enjoy.
Single You Out: Hannibal Stax & Marco Polo – Warriorz Drum (ft. Torae)
No…it’s not King Just (if you don’t get this reference then we are not from the same era), it’s Hannibal Stax and Marco Polo dropping that hardcore alongside a ope guest in the form of one Torae. This is a sick beat with dope lines galore. I just finished listening to Hannibal and Marco’s album, Seize the Day, and lets just say that it’s worth the dolo. Marco Polo is never to be associated with the weak shit!
Single You Out: 7 G.E.M.S. (Tragic Allies & Tragedy Khadafi) – Dem Get Murda
Tragic Allies and Tragedy Khadafi connect and form 7 G.E.M.S. They have an album dropping, Golden Era Music Sciences, next Tuesday. It’s slightly reminiscent of Black Market Militia in it’s sound and that’s not a bad thing. The lyricism is on the “street esoteric” nature backed with big beats.
Single You Out: Dragon Fli Empire – The Daily News Pt. 2 (ft. Sadat X)
Here’s another secret locked in the inbox for way too long. I have been familiar with Dragon Fli Empire for the past four or five years. They are known for that laid back and jazzy vibe hip hop. And everyone know Sadat X (if you don’t, get up and leave your computer now, I need a moment).
In short, this is a dope joint. The production has the horns buzzing and the emcees all capture the moment for a really chill joint.
This is the first single to the Empire’s forthcoming album, Mission Statement.
Single You Out: Case Arnold – Profound Sound (prod. by 9th Wonder)
Cleaning out my inbox I came across this joint from Case Arnold. I originally thought this was another freestyle over a 9th Wonder beat but I was wrong. (But hey can you blame a guy? That kinda of stuff goes on all the time). Case Arnold has a smooth flow and we all know the work that 9th Wonder is capable of.
Apparently this cut is off of Arnold’s latest project, The Myndstate.
Single You Out: Focus… – Just Don’t Know
Oh, you’re not a fan of Focus…? GTFOH. Focus… is one of the few artists out there that is an incredible producer and talented emcee and can do so simultaneously. I can’t think of ten other guys on his level right now. This beat and his insightful lyricism made me shed a tear of happiness. This is a single off the forthcoming, FP : 1172 II (which I have no information about.
Remember…sound without Focus…is just noise.
Single You Out: Ugly Heroes – Graves
Ugly Heroes is comprised of emcees Red Pill and Verbal Kent, along with unparalleled production of one, Apollo Brown. This song is first single from their forthcoming self-titled album dropping on, May 28th.
This song chastises those who worship the almighty dollar and wreaks havoc on ear drums along the way. I am sure you will enjoy this thoroughly.
Illogic & Blockhead – Atlantis Depth (Video)
Illogic & Blockhead drop a video single from their most recent endeavor, Capture the Sun. The song itself showcases the talent of both producer and emcee. Up until about half way through the cut, it’s merely Blockhead’s instrumental. But just over the midway point Illogic drops his eloquent observations giving us the best of both worlds.
“…show me the prideful, and I’ll show you an unmarked grave…“
Single You Out: Vorheez – Trials & Tribulations (ft. REKS)
I had forgotten for a moment that Vorheez new album would be dropping this year and while the Fall seems like it is a long way along, it’s cut like these that will tide us over. This track will actually be featured on The Grim Reaperz EP (dropping May 10th, vinyl only). The beat is hot and the rhyme exchanges are fresh.
