The Antihero Project – Dark Renaissance (Video)

This video was released a month ago but I just now caught it.   I think this is innovative in terms of the video, and on point when it comes to production and rhymes.  I like the whole “Mission Impossible” take on the video.

The Antihero Project is comprised of the following, Mehdi Cee, Johnny Illdigger, and Logic Johnson.

Because I though the music was so good I think I am going to give the album a spin.  What do you all think?

Nutso – I Plead The 5th (2013)

Artist: Nutso

Album: I Plead The 5th

Source: Artist

Tracklisting:

Note:

Listen.  I am going to make this easy to understand.  If you like that raw, grimy, New York boom-bap, then Nutso is that dude.  I don’t know if there is a doper delivery in the Rotten Apple than his.  Sure there are people who have clever rhyme schemes and intricacies but when it comes to straight flow and emotion, Nutso  has got it on lock.

Single You Out: MaV – Imperial b/w Observe & Report (ft. Just FLoW)

Ghetto

MaV recently released his GhettOthello project and it took me a while to run through it and I have to say I was amazed.  I was amazed not because of the dope music (I expected that) but by how professional everything was done.  It was solid from the rhymes and beats all the way down to the mix down.  There was careful execution in the arrangement of the tracks and not a lot of people understand how important that is to showcase your talents.   The attention to detail was impeccable.  Also it bears mentioning that MaV produced most of the project himself and you will understand how impressive  when you hear the project.

Now to the tracks at hand.  I first heard MaV because of his collaborations with another artist we have showcased here, Just FLoW.  It just so happens that the two of them have a couple of dope tracks on this joint and it gives you an insight into how dope this project is.  Observe and Report is definitely an early candidate for the Top 50 at the end of the year.

9th Prince – Never Never (ft. Inspectah Deck) (Video)

I am not sure where this track is from or destined to be, but it’s definitely worth sharing.   The production is coming from Soul Professa and as you can see from the title we have 9th Prince and Inspectah Deck in charge of bar droppin’.  The cut is a concoction of soul, funk, and grime, so if that sounds good to you, make sure you cop the single.  I especially like the way the Professa chops up the production between the 16s.  Dope.

Serge Severe & 5th Sequence – Boom Bap & Bars (2013)

Serge Severe & 5th Sequence - Boom Bap & Bars Vol. 1

Tracklisting:

1. Strong Coffee
2. Hold It Down
3. It’s Like That
4. James Worthy
5. French Toast
6. No Love
7. Don Draper

Note:

Serge Severe is not about just sitting on one particular sound.  Over the course of the last eighteen months, Severe has solicited the talents of a variety of producers.   Boom Bap & Bars is the end result of building with the producer 5th Sequence.  The project initially comes off as perhaps jazzy and mellow but there’s also an underlying boom bap that exists in the sound.

Nutso – PAIN [Prod. 5th Seal] (Video)

Some songs just draw the emotion out of you.  PAIN is one of those joints for me.  Nutso and 5th Seal bring child and sexual abuse front and center.  The first verse deals with a story about a little girl who is being abused by her stepfather and her mother doesn’t believer her. The second verse tackles the subject on a whole.

The music is of course dope but what I like about this track is that someone with the credibility of Nutso is bold enough to tackle this topic.  It would be equivalent to Kool G Rap talking about it in 1992.  Eyes be open…

This song is a cut off of the free EP, I Plead The 5th, out now…
