Note:
One thing that I have learned for certain in 2013 is that The Militia is an elite production outfit. They concoct some raw and innovative boom bap for artists, in this case, Curtessy to spit over.
Expectations is an interesting title for this album, because not really knowing what Curtessy was about, I really had no expectations for this release. But as it turns out, with this release, he’s starting to set those expectations with this release. And he sets that bar high.
The project of course features spine-snapping drums and soulful rhythms from The Militia but also a very driven Curtessy. It sounds like he is a man who has been doubted before. But on this release, he shows that South Central emcees can come with the lyrics too. He got the nice wordplay but it is derived from his real life experiences and what’s what makes this joint special.
Expectations on the whole is dope but some of my favorite cuts are One, the posse cut Expectations, and All My Life. These three cuts illustrate the incredible production from The Militia and Curtessy’s complete repertoire. Give this project a chance and become a fan.

Tales From Tha’ Dopeside will finally surface in approximately two weeks. Meanwhile Famoso leaks this Thorotracks produced single featuring Shabaam Sahdeeq.
I am not sure how old this track actually is as I see it is referenced on the web all the way back in 2009. But no matter how old the material, the joint still knocks.
Midiflash – You Ain’t Ready (ft. M-Dot x Nutso x DJ LP2) (Video)
This is a track was originally featured on M-Dot’s Layer Cake mixtape last year. It’s now been resurrected and embedded on producer Midiflash’s new mixtape, Fresh Out The Boombox. Regardless of where you hear it, you know it’s dope. The song features two of the most respected emcees…period. M-Dot and Nutso have the talent and know work…respect the game!
Single You Out: nanigan nickleby – Old Ben Kenobi (ft. Eddy Shanks)
I saw that nanigan nickleby was doing work with Tokyo Cigar, of whom I am a fan, so I decided I would check his project, Dead Letters in Exile, out. I was pleasantly surprised. This release is different than what is offered by the status quo. The word ‘refreshing’ seems appropriate. One of my favorite cuts from the album is Old Ben Kenobi. Nickelby shows off his clever writing skills, refuting the bandwagon and offering listeners something new. The singer, Eddy Shanks, also does a good job of injecting that soulful/rock element to the cut.

Single You Out: Nutso – Phuk It! (feat. Problem & Bad Lucc) (prod. by Reef)
Nutso is doing something so few artists have done, especially on the level of a whole project. When the Western Union project drops next week it represent a union of two coasts. He will be working exclusively with emcees from the Left Coast, showcasing some of the best talent in the region. This is the first single from the project featuring Problem and Bad Lucc. Quite simply, it knocks.
Single You Out: Syler – What I Am? (prod. by J. Glaze)
J. Glaze gets those piano keys banging and the bass line thumping and that means BANGER! Syler is no slouch on the microphone either. He definitely is on point and on time with the lyricism. The chorus is also done really well which is essential when crafting a dope song. Syler’s new album, One Minute To Midnight, is slated to drop November 19th.
Single You Out: Jus Daze – I Made It (ft. MVP and Devo D)
Now this usually ain’t my steez. It’s a little too uptempo and optimistic and I am just not that kind of guy. But the song is too well put together not to share it. The chorus by Devo D really completes the cut in between sixteens from Jus Daze and MVP (from WWE fame, who knew?). It’s the type of joint that definitely could rock a club and steal some commercial success. I Made It, is just the tip of the iceberg from the Walk Twice As Hard album. One of the things I like about Jus Daze is that he is one of the more substantive emcees I feature here. He’s always dropping material that gets you thinking and while I Made It is not exactly in that lane, make sure you give the album a deserved listen.
Alterbeats x Mic Handz – My Life (Video)
This video is full of changes of direction, dope production from Alterbeats, and raw rhymes from Mic Handz. Every video that’s done for an Alterbeats’ cut is just extremely well done. There’s no getting around that. There’s also no denying Mic Handz’ opportunity to achieve his dream. He has the skill, the production behind him, and the cosign from a lot of other dope artists. Let’s see what he does next to make those dreams a reality. Meanwhile, make sure you cop Class Struggle if you have not already.
Single You Out: Sgt. Over – All My Life (ft. Jessie Davis)
This is a different and niiiiice track from Sarge off of his forthcoming EP, Sargenetics. That will be hitting hard drives on November 26th. I really am feeling the vibe of this joint. The production with the piano keys and other instrumentation sounds like audible alchemy. Dianetics really makes a good first impression.
