Note:

This is one of those reviews that I was trying to get done weeks ago and then the sickness set in and I wasn’t really good for anything.  But here I am in reasonable health to let you know about this project Rozewood concocted at the end of 2012. Rozewood you may remember had a project reviewed over a year ago entitled Neon Paradise.  That was a really solid album.

This project is more of a quick burst to the masses so that people can hear what the man is truly capable of.  On Seppuku, Rozewood has chosen some of his most stellar performances of the bast so that the listener can see the potential.  Undoubtedly, people might forget that he had a song with Apollo Brown entitled, Black Christ.

Yet here it is again in front of you and undeniable.  Originally this was a track to be found on the Digi Crates compilation.  The true potential of Rozewood can be found on this joint.   The beat by Apollo Brown is a little more tame then lets say his production on the Gas Mask.  It’s more haunting and has a mysterious element to it.  Rozewood  intertwines theology into his everyday affairs making this track one to remember.

There are big name producers to be found on this project, with 9th Wonder, The Alchemist, and the aforementioned Apollo Brown.  But what’s really on display here is Rozewood’s superlative flow and swift turn of phrase.  In a lot of his cuts throughout his discography you’ll find concepts of good and evil, and not the straight forward cops and robbers variety. It’s more cosmic interwoven with karma.  Take for instance the Josh Lamont produced joint, Dancing With The Devil.

Life’s a paradox that is from a weary rebel / God’s possessing my soul yet I am dancing with the devil

That’s a succinct summation from the artist himself.  He’s constantly fighting temptation of the flesh and the mind.  But it’s in his wording where you see the depth of this thought.

Let me blunt, Rozewood is not a new jack.  The man is quite accomplished and now it’s time to give the devil his due so to speak and for people to pay attention.  Download a few tracks and pass it on.
