The new Zion I project, Ritual Mystik, is probably the duo’s best work in the last few years in my opinion. I really enjoyed every track from the project and here they deliver the video single for their cut, Calm Down. This video is also exceptional from a coordination standpoint…both audibly and visually keeping the president and the establishment’s policies in check, in the neighborhood.
Single You Out: Del and Amp – Wheel Of Fortune
Del is linking up with Zion I’s, Amp Live for a new collaborative album dropping on April 20th, entitled Gate 13. As separate artists, these gents have pioneered a whole sound as part of the Hiero and Zion I collectives respectively. What you hear in this song is not your standard fair, as the duo continue to push the hip hop envelope.
Zion-I – Human Being (Video)
Zion I has such a unique flavor all unto themselves. It’s funky, electronic, and head nodding. This song is off of their latest album, ShadowBoxing. I am about ready to listen to the whole thing right now, so…. ‘Bounce!’
Zumbi and The ARE: The Burnerz
Album: The Burnerz
Production: The ARE
Guests: One Be Lo, The Grouch, Martin Luther
Best Tracks: Changes, Jus Anotha Day, Off The Wall, Old Soul
Recommendation: Must Have
Notes: Zumbi (from Zion I) and The ARE have teamed up to create The Burnerz for their initial album release. This album, for me, was really an after thought initially. October 12th was a very busy day for new music to drop, however I gave the iTunes snippets a listen and proceeded to make it one of my many purchases.
After a few listens, I came to this conclusion: The album is insanely good. Production wise I can not pay it a higher compliment by saying I like it better than The Search For Stoney Jackson . That is saying a lot considering how solid Madlib’s work was on the aforementioned Strong Arm Steady project.
