50 Best Songs Of 2022

Lists of this magnitude are tough to do and I take a great deal of pride in crafting. I think the first ten to fifteen are easy to distinguish and then after, I think the places can be somewhat become interchangeable. All great tracks, where the pecking order becomes less discernible. So many artists could have been included multiple times on this list, but then we lose depth. Artists like Mickey Diamond and Jay Royale could have had multiple entries. As it stands only one emcee, Ransom, got two tracks selected for this list.

In the end, this is a testament to the strength of hip hop in 2022. We can agree to disagree on many points but maybe you will find something dope you hadn’t heard or a new artist to support. This is my hope.

Thanks for your time and readership!

Vandal – Unruly (prod. by Nottz) (Video)

I guess I’ll never make friends around here…I’m too unruly….

I saw that Nottz produced this track Unruly for the emcee Vandal and thought I would give this a chance. I am so glad I did. This track is Top 5 fresh for 2022 and that’s not overstating it in the least. This production is insane. The spanish guitar mixed with these drums just has such a way of making that head not and sinking into those ear drums. And this chorus above is just so damn catchy. And not to unnoticed is some pretty dynamic wordplay from our emcee.

You can find this joint off the recently released project, Pick Ya Poison, Vol. 1.

Joell Ortiz – Anxiety (Video)

When artist’s touch on the vulnerable side of humanity with their music it does something special for the listener.  It creates an instant bridge between the artist and the fan.  I can see this happening over and over again with this track, Anxiety, from Joell Ortiz.   He relays what it is like to live life in a state of constant apprehension and all the signs and feelings it incorporates. He also reflects on how dismissive people can be of the topic.

This track is one of the strongest of the year in my estimation as Nottz does his usual remarkable when melding samples, drums, and instrumentation.

Powerful.

Notes:

Quite a few dope projects made their way to digital shelves last week but I can’t let this one slide by, so out of all the projects, this is the one that I feel deserved the feature.

Nottz has crafted brilliance at least FOUR times this year providing the soundscape for albums from Blu, Bad Seed, Bumpy Knuckles and now NapsNdreds.   He just has an incredible ear and gift for what he does.

And I have a few other projects from NapsNdreds but none as complete as Trouble & a Pair of Dice.   His flow, wordplay, and content all shine impeccable on this project.  There are a few dope features on this album, but none of them take the limelight off of NapsNdreds.  He holds it down on all levels.

This is another must-have for your listening pleasure in 2018.  Don’t let it pass you by!  Here are my two favorite tracks from the project:

Single You Out: NapsNdreds – Black Spider (prod. by Nottz)

a2576538649_10

Man, I will NOT let this release pass you by!  NapsNdreds connected with Nottz to create the album, Trouble & A Pair Of Dice.  And if I was to simply tell you it was dope, I would be deeply understating things.  The project is a complete one filled with depth of lyricism, creativity, and of course beats.  On the track Black Spider, Nottz outdoes himself.  This is brilliant.  The rock/trippy fused rhythm is so unique and NapsNDreds really bonds himself to the rhythm.   He has quite a few rewindable moments here.

You should love this!

Rain910 – Who Wants To Die (ft. Cory Gunz) (Video)

This cut is as they say, ‘stupid fresh’.   Rain910 and Cory Gunz are on some Dia De Los Metros shit with this latest cut produced by Nottz.  It’s a banger in every sense of the word.  The production from Nottz is so fire it’s able to set off a panic among listeners.  Rain and Gunz then proliferate random violence with every turn of phrase.

Be on the lookout A Perfect Day To Die dropping on November 13th.
