Single You Out: Midaz The Beast – War I Bring (prod. by Sherm LaRock)

New music from Midaz The Beast, and this time backed by the strength of Sherm Larock of whom I am a big fan. This joint is a straight banger, and being that it’s been out for a few weeks, you are all missing out. LaRock has got those drums, bells, and an ominous “war” vocal sample, while Midaz has razor sharp bars to sever heads. This is one of my favorite joints so far in this early year.

Single You Out: Midaz The Beast x Sharp – Kyrie

It’s been a little while since I have heard from new from MidaZ The Beast, and it’s always a good thing when he graces these pages. This time he flips a high degree of skill over a soulful production from Sharp. I am really enjoying the feel of this one. And some more good news, we are going to get more of it in a little over a week on July 5th when the pair release their project, #LIVENIGGARAP

Top 50 Songs (2013)

Disclaimer:  It is hard and challenging to pick 50 tracks from the thousands upon thousands that dropped this year.  It is merely an attempt to list my favorite cuts of 2012.  Click the links to listen to the song!  I think it’s a great list.  There were a lot of great songs crafted this year and I know I left off some good ones.  I listened to 5,000+ tracks from 2012 alone this year, so as an artist, if you made this list you know you are on the forefront of my iTunes!

Producer Spotlight: IMAKEMADBEATS (2013)

IMMB-02-1

It’s time for another Producer’s Spotlight and this time we are going more domestic than imported. IMAKEMADBEATS is the first producer from the United States to be featured in this segment and we are really proud to showcase his talents on HHD.  He’s worked with some incredibly talented artists but some of his best work can be featured on MidaZ the Beast’s new album, AU: Another Universe.  Definitely make sure you check that release out if you have not already.   You should also check out IMAKEMADBEATS’ Daylight/Nightlight EPs.

Curtessy x The Militia – Expectations (2013)

curtessy-expectations

Artist: Curtessy x The Militia

Album: Expectations

Tracklisting:

  1. A New Day
  2. What It Seems
  3. One (ft. Khrysis)
  4. Emcee
  5. Expectations (ft. Wally Left x Rome Clientel)
  6. The Lifestyle (ft. MidaZ The BEAST)
  7. All My Life
  8. South Central (ft. Pro Logic)
  9. Aint No Love
  10. End Of The Day

Note:

One thing that I have learned for certain in 2013 is that The Militia is an elite production outfit.   They concoct some raw and innovative boom bap for artists, in this case, Curtessy to spit over.

Expectations is an interesting title for this album, because not really knowing what Curtessy was about, I really had no expectations for this release.  But as it turns out, with this release, he’s starting to set those expectations with this release.  And he sets that bar high.

The project of course features spine-snapping drums and soulful rhythms from The Militia but also a very driven Curtessy.  It sounds like he is a man who has been doubted before.   But on this release, he shows that South Central emcees can come with the lyrics too.  He got the nice wordplay but it is derived from his real life experiences and what’s what makes this joint special.

Expectations on the whole is dope but some of my favorite cuts are One, the posse cut Expectations, and All My Life.  These three cuts illustrate the incredible production from The Militia and Curtessy’s complete repertoire.  Give this project a chance and become a fan.
