Artist of the year, M-Dot and EMS cohort Revalation rock over this Norman Cratez beat. I love the Bad Santa samples that are used with the production. M-Dot and Rev do what they do best..rips mics.
Artist Of The Year: M-Dot (2011)
M-Dot!!!! The name rings clearly enough on any track this Bostonian finds himself on. The trademark ‘shout-out’ announces his verse is up next, and yes folks, the man is up next. M-Dot has found himself on countless projects this year and every time he spits, it’s a win. He has put out a remixed album with DJ Jean Maron this year and a mixtape entitled, M.ore D.oubters O.ver T.hinking. He also was a part of one of the dopest videos this year with DJ Brans and Armageddon (Terror Squad) entitled World Wide.
With all the being said, M-Dot is constantly on his grind, building on his budding reputation as one of the pre-eminent independent hip hop artists today. Today, Hip Hop Dependency wants to recognize, M-Dot for all of his accomplishments in 2011 as our Artist Of The Year. His consistency behind the mic and his work ethic is well deserving.
M-Dot agreed to answer a few questions for me and I am proud to deliver this interview of one of my favorite artists. Do yourself a favor, check this interview out but be sure to check out the projects he has out and support!
Check The Discography: E.M.S.
There are just a few collectives out there that put out consistently dope hip hop. E.M.S. is one such collection of artists. This group of artists out of Massachusetts have put out an incredible amount of material and I wanted to give the readers an opportunity to give some of these releases a listen. A big shout out to Rev from E.M.S. for compiling all of these releases.
I have personally heard 90% of these albums/mixtapes and I can attest for their dopeness. Now, remember, I wasn’t trying to put out every mixtape or guest shot these artists have ever been on. This is just their own releases. Please enjoy this late holiday gift…

Single You Out: Chaundon – El Mariachi (Ft. Daily Planet, Cymarshall Law, and M-Dot)
I am always down for some new music from Chaundon. It’s been a minute. He brings a few guests for this heater. Two of them, Cymarshall Law and M-Dot have been mentioned a couple of times already on HHD. I think you will like this joint…a little verbal murder going on here.

DJ Brans – Worldwide ft. M-Dot and Armageddon (Video)
I brought you the single last week and now I bring you the visuals and all I can say is…WOW. This cut is dope and this video is on par with music. I love what they did with the lighting in the hand gestures. The whole concept of a pseudo battle taking place between these two very ill emcees is a good look. It would be cool to do a whole album as such. DJ Brans album BRANStorm is dropping this year and if this cut is any indication, I will definitely be copping.
Soulslicers – Before The Album EP (2011)
Soulslicers is a production crew coming out of Switzerland. They have released this EP for free to generate interest in their soon to be released EP, entitled Boost Da Soul. And let me tell you, my interest sure is piqued. These three tracks are just ill and if this album is indicative of what is to come then let me go ahead pre-order this joint right now. The production is phenomenal. The songs just knock. The song that his generate the most interest across the web is M-Dot’s The Difference, but I am partial to the Quite Nyce joint, Cautious. But I can’t front on that Access Immortal joint, King Of Kings either. It’s good to hear him flow over a beat of this caliber. All three emcees kill their verses over three different, but knocking beats.
These guys beats definitely deserve some recognition. They have some serious skills and this is just the tip of the iceberg. Shoot, I even dig the whole “producers in the shadows” concept on the cover art. All around dope and a must download! I am certain of it.

Producers: Certified, Mydus, MizfitSoundz, IlL Meel, Gajos
Best Tracks: Monster Music, Out Of My Mind, One Thing, Never Over
Recommendation: Highly Recommend
Note: This is arguably one of the best compilations this year. So many compilations and mixtapes get released from the blogs/websites that it gets hard to distinguish one from the other. I think that Refined Hype did a great job with it’s selection of emcees. There was a number of strong joints on the album and nothing that I could even call average. It seemed that everyone who appeared, made a mark.
Monster Music was the show stopper in my mind. The beat was remarkable with it’s intensity and the emcees were brutal (in a good way) with their wordplay. Wordsmith definitely impressed me with his bars on Out Of My Mind. His delivery seems way ahead of the pack. His ability to flip verses just seems so fluid. There really is so much to like with this mixtape. You will have your choice of dope cuts to listen to and you can run through the whole thing without a skip.
