If you haven’t heard, the incomparable John Jigg$ has a new project out, By God’s Good Grace. I’ve always been a fan of the way Jigg$ can deliver on ANY beat, and apply any style and topic, but this is one of his best projects to date. Every time I thought I heard “the best track” the next one stole the show. There are some darker notes struck on the project which I have a propensity for, but as a body of work this is complete. Even the interludes are articulated well and give the project depth. In sharing with you I am singling out the DJ Mickey Knocks guitar infused rhythm because it’s a different energy and sets the bar.
John JiggS & ButterKnife Haircuts – Vladimir (Video)
I am catching up from last week and THIS is one of my favorite songs from John Jigg$ period and certainly my favorite from his new project with Butterknife Haircuts, Teflonious Monk. This joint is bullet proof and a half. This beat is dense and reverberates ear drums while Jigg$ knocks it out of the park. Plus…once again…the incomparable Tone Spliff blesses the cuts. This is one of the standouts this year.
Single You Out: John Jigg$ & Butterknife Haircuts – Vladimir
New music from John Jigg$! An unexpected surprise! This time he is connecting with producer, Butterknife Haircuts for the project Teflonious Monk. The project is eclectic, with producer keeping you on your toes with the soundscapes, but Jigg$ always consistent with his pen and flow. I decided to hit you with the track, Vladimir. The electric bass line, the drums, and the way he puts the ‘Vladimir’ in the cut is really dope. And Jigg$ annihilates these verese.
John Jigg$ – Flashlights (Video)
John Jigg$ has a new video out that I meant to get out last week but I got stuck in some things and was unable to update the site, but there’s no wrong time to share some dope music. The single Flashlights, is off of Jigg$ latest project from earlier this year, S.O.U.L., where he really illustrates that he can take the soulful and more thoughtful productions and still produce excellence. The consummate emcee, Jigg$, can rock any beat and create great music.
Nam Nitty x Pillz BRIM – UNDENIABLE (ft. John Jigg$) (Video)
If John Jigg$ is affiliated with your song then we are going to check it out. That’s the rules we live by. And what Nam Nitty and Pillz BRIM brought with this is some certified toughness. This joint is strong, Nam Nitty not only delivery a nasty sixteen to set it off but also made this song cry with his production. Really dope ensemble here. And I was really impressed with PIllz as he has a really nice flow and the voice to really add punch to those bars. Definitely going to check out this project For Criminal Use Only 3: The Usual Suspects
John Jigg$ – Success (ft. Rockwelz) (prod. Nam Nitty) (Video)
John Jigg$ is back with some new music to get 2024 off to a great start, and a winning mentality with his new song featuring cohort, Rockwelz. This song is all about mindset and hitting a level regardless of what stood in your way. ”Murder em’ with success, that’s the only way to kill em'” That’s mantra right there.
I’m not going to dive in too hard to his new project, S.O.U.L, which is released just a few days ago as a Bandcamp only. But when I tell you, he put some literal soul into this work, it might as well have been a transfusion from man to music, because every joint is soaked in it. You definitely need to check and support.
John Jigg$ – KARMA (ft. Marquee) (Video)
John Jigg$ just released a new project, Jigganometry 2, and this the second (I believe) single from the project, produced by none other than Kyo Itachi. Karma is all about when the relationships go to the dark side. Trust broken. Loyalty questioned. Dreams shattered.
Single You Out: John Jigg$ – Cafe (prod. By Kyo Itachi)
John Jigg$ with some Kyo Itachi behind the boards is another winning combination. Jigg$ gives it to you real and brings back that true hip hop sound over a head nodder.
“N%$#as ain’t fucking with Jigg$ not even half way / Play with me get shot in the calf right in the cafe…”
Shabaam Sahdeeq x John Jigg$ – Tyrant (prod. DJ Goblin) (Video)
I am actually a lot late on this visual for Shabaam Sahdeeq and John Jigg$ track, Tyrant. This song is all kinds of fire and I can’t wait until the project drops. These are two of my favorites emcees just exchanging exquisite wordplay over a DJ Goblin heat rock. Are you not entertained?
Don’t Feed The Bears hopefully will see the light of day soon.
50 Best Songs Of 2022
Lists of this magnitude are tough to do and I take a great deal of pride in crafting. I think the first ten to fifteen are easy to distinguish and then after, I think the places can be somewhat become interchangeable. All great tracks, where the pecking order becomes less discernible. So many artists could have been included multiple times on this list, but then we lose depth. Artists like Mickey Diamond and Jay Royale could have had multiple entries. As it stands only one emcee, Ransom, got two tracks selected for this list.
In the end, this is a testament to the strength of hip hop in 2022. We can agree to disagree on many points but maybe you will find something dope you hadn’t heard or a new artist to support. This is my hope.
Thanks for your time and readership!
