Note:

I am going to put you guys onto a little secret…The AbSoulJah.  This artist dropped Slave To The Page roughly three years ago.  It was a free release that I picked up on and loved.  Ever since, I check for his releases, however sporadic they might be.  Hell, I want him to drop two albums a year so maybe I am being a little demanding.  But that’s neither here nor there.  Right now The AbSoulJah  has decided to release seventeen previously unreleased tracks from the last couple of years available to you all for free in prelude to his album dropping later this year.  There are a lot of bangers and if you notice, Ugly Tony (author of the recently reviewed, At Nightfall) touched some of the production on this piece so you can count on the dope production.

What can you expect from The AbSoulJah?  You can expect raw rhymes in a baritone flow.   You can expect intelligence coupled with ruggedness. Some folks have it and others don’t and trust that the man has all the intangibles that put him in an elite category of hip hop artists.

I am not going to do a full review as this is more of a compilation than a true album.  Every joint delivers as promised, but the something special to me on this comp is track 12, Talk To Me, produced by Manu Beats. Just a personal favorite.

Enjoy!

Single You Out: Emilio Rojas – Breaking Point

Emilio Rojas is a favorite at my house.  He always spits from the heart and his flows are so intense the listener can’t help but feel what he feels to some degree.    With that being said, Breaking Point just is a building of that emotional intensity.  I hope his new EP is just as ill because this where he is at his best.  For instance this is the one of the illest and real bars I have ever heard:

…my daddy learned she was pregnant and he was so angered / He tried to end it, I’m no stranger to coat hangers

It gets no realer!

Soulslicers – Before The Album EP (2011)

Soulslicers is a production crew coming out of Switzerland.  They have released this EP for free to generate interest in their soon to be released EP, entitled Boost Da Soul.  And let me tell you, my interest sure is piqued.  These three tracks are just ill and if this album is indicative of what is to come then let me go ahead pre-order this joint right now.  The production is phenomenal.  The songs just knock.  The song that his generate the most interest across the web is M-Dot’s  The Difference, but I am partial to the Quite Nyce joint, Cautious.   But I can’t front on that Access Immortal joint, King Of Kings either.  It’s good to hear him flow over a beat of this caliber.  All three emcees kill their verses over three different, but knocking beats.

These guys beats definitely deserve some recognition.  They have some serious skills and this is just the tip of the iceberg.  Shoot, I even dig the whole “producers in the shadows” concept on the cover art.  All around dope and a must download!  I am certain of it.

Note:

The AbSouljah hit me up one day a few weeks ago and mentioned that his friend, and producer, Ugly Tony, was going to have an album dropping in the next few weeks and invited me to check it out. For those that do not know, Ugly Tony, is a producer that is coming out of France. When learning this, whether intending to or not, when listening to the album, I began to compare him to his European contemporaries. Specifically coming to mind was another French producer, Al’Tarba, and the beatsmith’s from Germany, the Snowgoons and The Hitfarmers. What I first noticed was a bit of divergence from those contemporaries. At Nightfall is a bit more eclectic and less orchestral. He doesn’t rely on one particular type of production technique, but rather uses different sounds to establish  that boom bap appeal.

Playdough – My Cadillac

I love this cut.  The sample work is ill and I have always enjoyed Deepspace5 releases.  This is no exception.   The album Hotdoggin is out now, and it is damn good.  I hope I have a chance to review it soon but maybe you can take my word for it?  Alright, you are cynical, I can understand that.  You can stream Playdough’s album on his Bandcamp page and if you feel it, then you vcan give him $10 to support but for now enjoy this dope single.

Single You Out: Rubberoom – It’s On

I am just going to say it how I felt it, I am fucking amped about this news.  Rubberoom is Chicago based group that is responsible for one of my favorite LPs of all time. Architechnology is an incredible album especially since it was so ahead of it’s time.  It dropped 11 years ago and still stands the test of time.  It was just raw energy tapped into the headphones when it played.  This new single sounds equally as dope and apparently they are making a new album.  I can’t wait to hear it.  It is something to anticipate for sure.   Check out, It’s On, and if you like it then download it.

Awar – My Story (Video)

This is the second song off of Awar’s recently released, DJ Booth sponsored, Things Of That Nature EP.  I realize that Awar is not a household name to most, but don’t mistake him for a rookie.  Awar has been paying his dues for some years.  I haven’t heard the entire EP yet but what I have heard has been of the highlest caliber.  He has great storytelling ability and his words come from deep inside.  Artistry in the truest form.  The production on this joint comes from Frank Dukes.

Single You Out: I Am Many – Coo Coo Crazy

New single from Creative Juices artist, I Am Many.  The new mixtape, Born Again Sinner, is going to be be dropping online on May 2nd, so check for that.  This song is produced by Creative Juices front man IDE.   And what I like about this joint is the fact that this is a “true” freestyle over an “original” beat.  I am really tired of hearing people go in over industry beats.  It lacks creativity in my mind.  I Am Many really is different type of emcee that has an extremely unique flow and cadence.  Definitely check back here for more of I Am Many and Creative Juices releases.   Meanwhile…enjoy…
