DJ Skizz – Triboro Thoro (ft. Hannibal Stax, Big Noyd, & Panchi) (Video)

Brooklyn resident, and Boston native, DJ Skizz is set to release his highly anticipated debut producer album,B.Q.E. (Brooklyn-Queens Experience) on 6-23-2013.  This track is a video single for that same project and as you can hear from this joint, it’s that grimy and gritty hip hop that we all love and appreciate.  I especially love to see Big Noyd on a track again.   I have always enjoyed that flow and it’s like son hasn’t aged a bit since the late 90s!  I am definitely looking forward to this project.

Single You Out: Tha Soloist x Trilian – Words (ft. AWKWORD)

original-script

This cut is coming off of Tha Soloist vs. Trilian: Original Script album. That album is really thirteen tracks of straight dopeness.  On this joint you have our World View (album dropping in 2017.  Cheapshot, I know) compatriot Awkword.   This track has a definite “old school” vibe to it as both the producer and the emcees throw it back a bit.   I also want to mention that Trilian (out of Serbia) has been cranking out some bangers this year.  He has another album with this artist, Rated R, that has superlative production.  Definitely stay connected to what this young man is doing.

Here-We-Go-Cover-Art

It’s been 3 years since Revalation (of EMS) brought you a solo project. He’s been doing numerous features for side projects and his crew that has kept him busy. But now he finally brings you his 1st single, Here We Go, featuring veteran Ohio emcee, Dominique Larue, and produced by Pittsburgh’s Shade Cobain. This track is taken from Revalation’s upcoming mixtape Feature Presentation due out this summer….

Single You Out: Thesis43 – Storm Coming (ft. Apathy)

vFcIkA8

I had missed this track from a few weeks ago and it’s too dope just to leave it to chance that you may have caught it by now.  The beat by Digerati is really a showstopper.  The bass line on this track is pulsating while he incorporates so many other different sounds.  The electronica almost sounds like it was lifted from an early Nintendo video game.  While all this is going on Thesis43 and Apathy execute their verses to perfection.

This song can be found on Thesis43’s The Era EP.

The Other Guys – When The Music Stops (feat. Substantial) (Video)

Hip Hop done the right way!  That’s what I have to say about this.  The Other Guys link up with Substantial for a verse to create this smooth and melodious cut.  The production is easy going and smooth and the emcees relate to a time when the industry required it’s talent to…well, have actual talent.  Lets face it, it’s not longer the skills that pay the bills, it’s the image.  But these guys are having none of that.

You can find this cut on The Other Guys’ album, The Other Album.

Note:

Swollen Members has teased me for years with single after single for previous albums alluding to that elusive and dark sound that harkens back to their debut effort, Balance. What kept on happening is the singles would all ring true to that “dark” formula, but those previous albums would fall short of the overall sound that I craved. Sometimes it’s not fair to judge an emcee or a group on that original sound as things are supposed to evolve.  But I am only human, and in the case of Beautiful Death Machine,  Madchild, Prevail, and Rob The Viking have come full circle.
