Locksmith, Skrewtape, and Rite Hook each spit some bars about how the odds are stacked against them and each day can seem like a fist fight. It’s an interesting combination of artists that create a dope and cohesive joint.

Code Nine & Purpose have a new album that dropped last week, Below Sumerian Skies, that is pretty damn dope. If you’re not familiar with Tragic Allies at this point, it’s about time you study up, and what better time than now? Purpose has produced some dope projects in the last couple of years and this is no different. Code Nine is a very formidable emcee with intricate and clever word play. As always, if you are feeling this cut, check the album.
From Da Streets is a new single from Dro Pesci’s forthcoming album , Groundhog Day, which is dropping on February 2nd. And here you get what you would expect, some gritty street narratives from Pesci, Ruste Juxx, and Nems, over a beat with a piano riff created by Vic Grimes that makes you think of Halloween the movie. Termanology has a new album out, More Politics, and It’s Quiet derives from that project. Term discusses life in the streets and life as a musician over a piano laced banger from Dame Grease.
It’s a Cincinnati/Atlanta connection when Jermiside and L-Marr that Star team up for the song/video, Ours. The song to me is pretty impactful when considering the surrounding world and what has taken from people at the hands of an election, the police, etc. This is a reclamation of what is owed to the masses. They can’t take it all away!

I forget what cut I heard Jake Palumbo rock on that made me check for him, but here he is with a new cut/video, Exoskeleton, off of his new album, Jake It Till You Make It. This track is tough featuring heavy hitters Ruste Juxx and Tek. I copped the album but haven’t given it a full listen, but given the strength of this cut and some of his guest shots, I am expecting a win.
Soarse Spoken has a pretty ill song here from his album, Rawcentricity. I am not sure who is responsible with the production, but it’s very well done. I love the texture of sounds. I also love Spoken’s detailing as to what it means to be exploited as an artist and encouraging listeners to support their music. Using the visual analogy of a vampire community coming after “fresh meat” is another dope way of conveying the point. Props!
Ren Thomas has a new project that’s dropping soon hosted by Lord Sear. Thomas is a vastly underrated lyricist who I think is primed to take the scene by storm. You can see what happens when you pair his lyrical talent with the production levels of Pete Rock. I mean this track is sensational. Special props to Skrewtape for directing the ill video too. The visuals were really well done.
KAMALA is back with some more illness in the form of the video single, Online College. DJ Ready Cee, El Gant, and Parakahn bring ridicule to your higher educational moments with this joint and it’s done in the freshest fashion possible so you don’t mind being insulted. Lyrically superb and production approved! Now all we need is a full length project…or a project of any length. I’ll take that too.
We featured this single a couple of weeks ago and this joint from K-Hill and Precyce Politix continues to deserve recognition in it’s video format. The emcees combined with the production from D.R.U.G.S Beats are out to prove a number of points. My main take away? Don’t be confined in another man’s box…
