When Awon and Dephlow say they are bringing that real hip hop, you can bet on that 100%. This song, from the beat to the lyrics, is authentic hip hop flavor that the HHD audience is sure to love. This song is off of their collaborative album, Dephacation. I have yet to check the project, though this song gave me the incentive I need to give it a listen. If the album is anything like this cut, we will have a winner for sure.
Donnie Darko – One False Move Pt. 2 (Video)
Man it has been a minutes since I have head some new NSD material. But the camp always has a habit of dropping a gem on us, so I can’t complain all that much. Donnie Darko drops those high energy verbals all over this DJ Bless track. That’s been THE combination that has taken NSD so far. Always a great pairing. And what can you learn from this track? Be aware of your surroundings and don’t take the hood lightly or you will get got.
New album, Redemption, drops on June 10th.
Starvin B – Rap College (ft. Spit Gemz x Tragedy Khadafi) (Video)
Starvin B’s new album, Blood From A Stone is oh so good. It’s one of my favorite albums to play from front to back this year and Starvin’s best work to date. I have yet to meet anyone who disagrees with me on that last point.
One-Take handles all of the production on the album and does an outstanding job. It’s a true head knocker. This track is one of the show stoppers from the album and also shows you that Spit Gemz is as potent as ever with his bars.
“A dollar and a dream will get you a shit sandwich…” <—- Ain’t that the truth!
Apathy – Curse Of The Kennedys (Video)
There’s an air of sophistication in Apathy’s new music. First he dropped The Grand Reveler which had the heavy Masonic influence, and now he drops The Curse Of The Kennedys which references the various nuances of the family’s past. Even the music seems very refined.
Connecticut Casual is hitting us on June 3rd.
I Am Many – Party Dave (Video)
Here in lies the lifestyle and story of one, Party Dave, as portrayed by I Am Many. It just goes to show you, that you are one arm wrestling match from losing it all (under breath chuckle). I Am Many has a style all unto himself making him one of the most unique artists around. The track can be found on his new album, Obese.
eMC – Charly Murphie (Video)
I have already talked about the song itself. The video is pretty straight forward. It’s four incredibly talented emcees rocking over the boom bap version of Three Blind Mice. It get’s no realer!
“…you don’t really want to get into a place, where you learn what the five fingers said to the face…” – Masta Ace
The Turning Point drops on May 20th. You know that you are feeling it!
Sleep (2 Man Cypher) – Question 2 (Video)
New video from Sleep’s new EP, Branded: The Damon Winton Story. The music and the message take you to an extremely dark place. It’s like God throwing you in the unlit basement and locking the only way out. It’s that kind of dark. But it’s extremely powerful and necessary, because these are the elements and emotions that are facing our children on a daily basis. Sleep makes you feel what this young man was dealing with, which is the point…
Single You Out: Swollen Members – Supreme Beings (ft. DJ D-Rec)
A resurgent Swollen Members crew is about to set it off with another album, Brand New Day, in about a month. and though not a part of the project, this is just a little teaser of what to expect. I like the fact that DJ D-Rec got to mix it up on the track, giving this cut that little something extra to go from good to great. Prevail and Madchild are back mixing their Battle Axe wordplay and haven’t lost one step . So ‘keep the doors locked, and the dead bolts fastened’.
Substantial – Neighborhood Watch (The Other Guys Remix) (ft. Acem of Gods’Illa) (Video)
Substantial and Acem remind us to take notice of what’s going on in your very own backyard…because your neighbors are already knowing about you! The Other Guys provide the remix for the Neighborhood Watch from the reworked version of Substantial’s Art Is Where The Home Is.
Endemic – Calisthenics (ft. Tragedy Khadafi, Sav Killz & Bugsy da God) (Video)
Endemic releases this video from the salvo known as, Terminal Illness Part 2. This is one of the man gritty bangers that you will find on this project. Endemic snares the talents of Tragedy Khadafi, Sav Killz , and Bugsy Da God to rock over some top notch production. Check the album if you have not already.
