Mic Bles and Level 13 are cooking again with a new project dropping this coming Sunday, Still No Halos. In prelude to that project we have the hard knocking joint, Raised On, featuring Ethemadassassin and D.R.E. Colombian Raw. Each emcee narrates a vivid perspective from where they came up. Really hard hitting, and you’ve got DJ Romes putting the finishing touches on the joint with precise scratches.
I’ve been meaning to showcase this joint for a minute. I saw the features and tracklisting on Enoch’s new album, Waiting For Something To Happen, and felt compelled to pick it up. You can hear the vibe, on this track S.O.S. with Estee Nack and Pro Dillinger. This song has a hypnotic and grimy feel to it. And what a great pairing with Dillinger and Nack on the cut! The whole album is really dope with this understated, yet really intriguing sounds (which all the sudden makes sense when I see there is a relation with the group CYNE…I need to find out more about this meanwhile…Enjoy!)
Definitely a song that should be getting some heavy spin. Grieves and Mouse Powell have a lot to say over this funky production. The synth bass slaps on these drums. But what really makes this track a notch above excellent is this trumpet from Dan E.T. It’s just a great vibe and Grieves is great at creating vibes and grooves. Not just a great emcee…but a great song creator.

Always down for new music with DJ Low Cut! This guy laces nothing but bangers and it’s so good to see him with some new music. And wow this single is so fucking good! Both songs, Navy with Crimeapple, and Last Day with Daniel Son, knock hard. I would be hard pressed to put a better two songs together from one artist in 2023. This is a MUST listen. Praise due to DJ Low Cut.
Aesop Rock has another single on his hands, Mindful Solutionism, which he also produced. It’s a really dope vibe as he harnesses this very ‘digital’ production has his backdrop to narrate the course of invention through history and up to now. It’s also a little less abstract than some of his other works, which in this case lends itself to an easy yet intriguing listening experience. Enjoy!
John Jigg$ and Samplicity release the video single SOIL from their album, Grand Royale which dropped late last year. Jigg$ is the consummate emcee and there is no one more gifted than to narrate his upbringing and surroundings than he. He does it so very aptly over this sensationally smooth production from Samplicity. There is such an effortlessness about Jigg$ flow that plays most excellent with this beat.
This is your “aha moment” thus far in 2023. Will4prez and Hobgoblin unleash a project no one may have been anticipating but you are going to start hearing more and more about. This project, Bar Barracks is going to put the hip hop world on notice. The beats from Hobgoblin are punishing, and equal to the task is Will4prez. It’s incredibly impressive and potent. The wordplay is superlartive. This is a rewind, front to back, kind of an album.
The League might be my favorite track from the album, but tough to say, that could change. What I do know is that you will be wow’d. Check it!
Oh good gawd this joint is a heat rock and a half. Skinny Bonez Tha Godfather and Words team up with Mickey Diamond and Dro Pesci for music to murk to. Bangkok Bar Brawls as a title sounds like the perfect reflection for the music itself. Each emcee has the gravel to lace som kill shots in their respective sixteens. This is a combo that belongs together on a track.
Here’s something new from an artist, Ox Omni, featuring the talented and prolific Rome Streetz who is a feature favorite. This track is found off of his album, Jenesaisquoi. Based on the single here, I think it’s worth a checking out, what do you think!
Yes!!! Wounded Buffalo Beats has to be one of my favorite producers right now. They had one of the best projects out last year in my humble opinion and now we get another heat rock featuring Ruste Juxx. And both these artists DELIVER. Juxx hits you up with some great life lyricism on this one and 20 years of Top Tier Tech. Jabbathakut chopping it up just adds to the song’s brilliance.
