This is embarrassing….I haven’t checked out the album Modern Vintage yet. John Robinson & PVD dropped the album on Tuesday and I have yet to get my hands on it but that’s going to change shortly. I really am enjoying the laid back vibe that this track embraces. It makes hip hop cool in an era where not much else is. A lot of artists embrace the tough guy music while others look to make headway on the radio with watered down music. This music that Robinson and PVD are doing, just moves you.
Famoso – Crooklyn Bars (ft. Taj Mahal) (Video)
Famoso and Taj Mahal are verbal street sweepers on their latest track, Crooklyn Bars. They each serve up a steady diet of dopeness over a J-Classic banger. Famoso and Taj sound really good together over this beat ala some Mobb Deeo classic shit circa 1996.
They both have mixtapes dropping next month: Famoso – Tales From Tha Dopeside and Taj Mahal – Power so make sure you give those a look.
GIT x HUBBS – Another Day/Commencement (Video)
Git & Hubbs drop the video single for the tracks Another Day and Commencement. It’s a two part joint where the first single gives way to the second in the middle of the video. Another day is a little bit darker in content and sound, while Commencement is a little bit lighter for your auditory palette. I think it gives a nice contrast. Hubbs has a pretty unique flow. His delivery relies a lot on pace and his content is anything but average. Pretty intelligent stuff.
If you are diggin’ these joints, make sure you check out their collaborative album, Piece Of Mind.
Rediculus – Kalashnikovs & Kush (ft. Shabaam Sahdeeq, El Gant, Famoso & Bekay)
The single dropped a couple of weeks ago and subsequently we get the visuals. The concept is almost like a basement cypher. As we said when we brought you the single a couple of weeks ago each of these emcees goes in with their verses. There is no weak link in the armor. In the description of the video there is a comparison of Bekay to ODB for this particular cut and that seems appropriate. I mean, dude is giving himself a haircut while spittin’ a dope sixteen…
This again is off of Rediculous’ forthcoming album, In Response: Dee-Fi.
Nutso & Dee Metto – This Is What They Like (Video)
Every time I feel a little bit of misgiving about the music that’s collecting in my mail box I get that one gem that lightens the load. Today that gem is Nutso and Dee Metto video, This Is What They Like, from their extremely fresh EP, Fluushang Metto. The music is raw and the video adds a not of a seductive element with the women masquerading in the red and black backdrop.
Bottom line: If you want that REAL Hip Hop…you should have already copped this album.
RUC aka MR. QB – Catch Your Drift (ft. Blaq Poet) (Video)
This is street mercenary music! I love this beat. I am not sure who is responsible for this production but the shit is tight. (Someone let me know who I can give his due!) The other part is that RUC and Poet drop a pair of dirty sixteens that will bring even the most uppity of suburban dwellers down to the street level.
Album from Ruc coming soon…
Serge Severe – The Bottom Line (Video)
Many of these amateur emcees can take a lesson from Serge Severe’s new single, The Bottom Line. There are too many carbon copies and robots out there and not enough originators. Severe and 5th Sequence are culpable for their part though as they continue to push the status quo forward with dope lyricism and production.
This track hails from their collaborative EP from last year, Boom Bap & Bars Vol. 1
Born Allah & Erule – Classick (ft. Planet Asia) (Video)
West Coast legends Born Allah, Erule, and Planet Asia connect on the appropriately titled cut, Classick. These emcees are some of the originators of this classic hip hop sound and have represented the Left Coast more than appropriately throughout the years. Enjoy this cut and cross your fingers that there’s more music left to hear! (This is the remix version of the track produced by Longevity)
Solo For Dolo x Don Producci – Golden (Video)
I know I’ve mention Solo For Dolo and Don Producci’s EP, Back to Basics, in the past but I am going to be redundant with this. The EP is a must have! It’s all about high skill on the mic and on the boards. You certainly shouldn’t cheapen you music collection without including this!
Army of the Pharaohs – The Demon’s Blade (Video)
The Demon’s Blade is just one of the many bangers that one can find on AOTP’s latest album, In Death Reborn. The team dispenses with the need for a hook on this track and just offer bars only. Leaf Dog formulates the production formula for the team to rock over. If you haven’t copped the album yet…it’s prolly just too late for you.
