Jelani Lateef – The Lyrical (Video)

It’s time to buck a few trends and Jelani Lateef may very well be an artist capable of doing just that.   Are you tired of verses dedicated to money, drugs, and hoes?   Lateef has the cure for what ails you.    It’s all about lyrical content and concepts when it comes to this choice cut.  This is my first time hearing from Lateef and I also heard a little bit of his album, Cold Days and Dark Nights.  is music is very consistent….meaning consistently good.  I am definitely going to listen to the album in full when it drops on April 30th.   He’s a breath of fresh air.

Red Pill – Ten Year Party (Video)

Can a man get some elbow room here?  Red Pill is about as distinct as they come, both as a person, and as an artist.  He is not going to live or make music to make other people happy.  He is going to make the music he wants to make.   Either you relate or you don’t.   His music is certainly introspective and more than a tad self-deprecating,  but that’s what makes him a must listen.   He spits on what he knows and in his own words, he would rather live for ten years doing what he want, than live for seventy doing what someone else wants him to do.

If you found this song hanging out in the haunts of your brain, check out the album,  Look What This World Did To Us.

Clean – Masochist (Video)

This is our first time featuring the artist, Clean.   And he hits us hard with a soulful tale of man glutting for punishment by staying in and returning to a hurtful relationship.  Sometimes trying to do the right thing just makes the suffering more intense.  The instrumentation is on point and appropriate as Clean weaves the feelings and emotions of a man being trapped.   I would think most of us have been there at one time or another.

Not sure if this is part of a larger project but I will stay tuned.

Oddisee – Counter-Clockwise (Video)

There’s always a lot of soul that goes into Oddisee’s music, but there’s almost an extra dose exhibited here.   There’s also a lot going on here musically.  A xylophone, drums, and varying background vocals set the stage for his conversational style as he shares a moment with his listeners.

The Good Fight is available on May 5th.  You know it’s going to be good.

SKAM2? – LOT3R (Video)

I am a big fan of Skam2? and was really excited to hear that he was coming out with some new music.  LOT3R (Lord of the 3 Rings) gives listeners (and viewers) insight into his craft as an artist, and believe me his imagery is sick.  He has designed countless of examples of cover art, but people sleep on his abilities as an emcee, and that’s a shame.  He is able to seamlessly port his ability as a visual artist into that of a wordsmith.  Special indeed.

Make sure you stay aware for April 15th, when he drops his latest project, Flying Monkey Murder Cirkus.

Saga – The Strong (Video)

Smooth lyricism are the first couple of words that enter my mind when speaking of Saga’s initial debut on these HHD pages. The music is silky smooth and Saga’s prose are pretty remarkable by today’s standards.  The word play certainly is in abundance.  So the bar is set high for his forthcoming project, From Out of  the Shadows.
