Bishop Nehru – Exhale (ft. Que Hampton) (Video)

First off, these guys make me feel really old simply from the fact of how young they are.   But Bishop Nehru and Que Hampton have got the formula right for dropping some dope hip hop music.  I enjoy this cut and the verse that play off one another.   I think I shunned Nehru before because I just didn’t think someone so young could be so ill.  I’ll blame that on my ignorance.

This song is off of Nahru’s album, strictlyFLOWz, which I am going to have to check out now.

R.A. the Rugged Man – Sam Peckinpah (ft. Vinnie Paz x Sadat X) (Video)

Beware of any secret underground viewing chambers for any hip hop videos.  It may lead you to engage in some disturbing and violent acts as is the case with R.A. The Rugged Man’s video for Sam Peckinpah which features Vinnie Paz.  This is very near to some Clockwork Orange shit.   R.A.’s new album, Legends Never Die, has been out for some time so make sure you scoop it up.

Swinn Da Example – Get It Right (Video)

Dee Metto put me on to this artist he had done some production for, Swinn Da Example.   I had never heard of him previously, so I didn’t know what to expect, but Metto’s cosign was all I needed to give it a chance.  I started off by listening to his mixtape, Off Da Back Burnah.    After the first few cuts from the album, I heard Swinn intermingling theology in his rhymes, which really accentuated his skills.  It was intelligent design.   But past track three of the mixtape I began to realize that this man was a devout Christian in addition to being an ill spitter.  I was impressed.  The man is convicted and has a powerful message to deliver which he does with exceptional skill over some boom bap beats.   This track is all about getting right in this life and ready for the next.  You need to do the most you can with your time here and stop slipping into your sinful ways.  I, as a delinquent Christian, was pretty moved by the project.  I think you should keep your minds open.

Alterbeats – Idol (ft. Bekay) (Video)

Alterbeats outdid himself with this production and Bekay was the perfect emcee to drop those lava rocks all across it.   This is just one of those perfect combinations.  The strings with the oriental flare over the crescendo of boom-bap flavor makes hip hop heads of all walks happy campers.  Class Struggle is dropping in just a few days, so make sure you mark the calendar.

Sleep – How To Rob (prod. By Dope Antelope) (Video)

If I had to pick my new artist of the year (meaning new to me) right now I would be going with the artist Sleep.  I’ll never forget when I heard about the video Leonidas, I was actually checking for another artist who goes by the same name.  Ever since then, this is the Sleep I am checking for.  This guy just gets it.   He has a unique mind for making songs.  He can do the boom-bap that the streets love but he also has the intellect to drop songs that relate to the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.  That’s legit on any level.

Meanwhile this song is menacing.  The lyrics…menacing.  The beat by Dope Antelope…menacing.   This is terrorist music and I mean that in a good way.

Bo Jankans – Wicked Looking Gun (Video)

Man, the homie J-Scrilla aka Scrilla Ventura is always sending me some dope music that he concocts with some dope emcees.   This time he hits me with a track/video that he creates with Bo Jankans called Wicked Looking Gun.  The track is demented enough that I enjoyed it thoroughly.   The video and storyline keeps you interested.  The beat from Ventura keeps you on that razor’s edge.  It’s kind of like a home-brewed cup of evil.  And Jankans’ ability is an emcee can’t be undersold.  The man can narrate a story, and even though this is the first I have heard from him I will be checking for his new project The MotorMouth EP.

Rite Hook – Cursed Man (Video)

No one has ever accused Boston’s Rite Hook in being conventional, and this video and song is certainly not conventional.   This video reminds me of an 8MM that you weren’t supposed to find from a horror movie.  It’s dark, grainy, and just a little sinister.  Sinister also describes Rite Hook’s flow and lyrics on Cursed Man.  It’s just enough to make you feel a little uneasy.  Uneasy or not, Rite Hook is one of the more unique talents from the Bean and I love his ability to do his own hooks.  It’s one of the things that sets him apart from his contemporaries.  The production from Cursed Man comes courtesy of Rob Whitaker.   His new album, From The Wrong, drops on November 11th.
