Single You Out: Bobby J From Rockaway & Dom Dirtee – Dangerous

Bobby J From Rockaway and Dom Dirtee release the first single from their forthcoming album, Higher, which drops in November. And this song is some high powered heat backed by the scratched of none other than DJ Evil Dee. And let me tell you this joint is dangerously addictive as a head nodder. This beat should come with a neck snap disclaimer. The bass line just speaks to the title of the track. And Bobby J is just so in step with this beat. His flow and pen, just hit this joint out of the park right off the back with lines like this…

Get up…follow me like a fucking Apostle…I embrace the abstract like I’m hugging Picassos

I mean c’mon! This is a top choice joint from what’s bound to be one of the best albums of 2024. Dom Dirtee and Bobby J are deeply rooted in this hip hop!

Single You Out: MaLLy – Doing Okay

It’s been a while since we have heard from MaLLy but if you dig through out archives you will see that this is an artist worth supporting. Exceptional talent. And on the track, Doing Okay, he strikes a chord over a melodic and harmonious production from Last Word. He’s speaking positivity and a heightened level of self. It sounds like this is a man who is at peace with himself and place he is finding in the world. Mature music and more coming on the way on October 15th when he releases the album, The Sweetest Of It All.

when you got yourself to love you ain’t ever lonely

Single You Out: Premrock & Willie Green – Imposter Syndrome

Premrock and Willie Green are musical genius. I have always enjoyed the music they create together. They compliment each other perfectly. Premrock’s pen game moves complicity with Willie Green’s score. And I really do feel he is “scoring” the lyrical landscape. What the two have is thoughtful chemistry and it’s so great to hear them work together.

I could have easily picked any of the six tracks from Through Lines to share with you but why not go with the lead track, Imposter Syndrome. Listen to the piano sample trail underneath impeccable poetry and those drum patterns leave their indelible mark.

Single You Out: The High & Mighty – Highest Degree (ft. OC)

And now we have something new from DJ Mighty Mi and Mr. Eon aka The High and Mighty!? And it’s featuring the legend O.C.? Its and extra dope weekend on HHD. It’s uptempo yet has an “old school” flavor. Like I could see B-Boys and B-Girls breaking to this joint. After so many years it’s good to know the tandem still has this flavor. Dope!

And apparently there is a whole album coming? Man, what great news. Needed this after so many losses in the hip hop community this summer.

Single You Out: Daniel Son & Finn – Chalk Brothers (ft. Lord Juco)

Daniel Son and Lord Juco backed by Finn? Yes…please! Chalk Brothers are in full effect and it sounds dope as we would expect. Finn laces the piano keys then brings in the drums to make that head nod with well placed excellence. And these flows play so nice off of each other. Smooth yet sharp really describes this joint. One day in the future we are going to need a Lord Juco and Daniel Son album.

But as it stands, Daniel Son and Finn have a new one coming and this is the first single. Hare Brained Schemes coming soon (well actually in a couple of months so not too soon)!

Single You Out: Serge Severe – That Product

Serge Severe is an artist that a decade ago used to hit me (and we would feature) EPs on a fairly consistent basis. Really talented emcee who made great music out of Portland at the time if I recollect. And then as life moves, priorities shift, I didn’t hear much over the last several years. But he just sent me his new SXLXMXN laced track, That Product, which really showcases that edge, energy, and talent I came to really appreciate all that many years and releases ago. Really great to hear from him again.

Single You Out: JR Swiftz x Jamil Honesty x Jay Royale – The Chipped Tooth Era

Just yesterday, I made it a Jay Royale listening experience…listening to four of his albums and walking away with a couple of thoughts 1) This guy is the embodiment of what Nas, Mobb Deep, and KGR were to hip hop in the 1990s. That pen game, flow, and ear for beats just takes me back to that era with a new level of lyricism. 2) Damn I wish I could get a Jamil Honesty and Royale collab album! Those two sound really nice on a a track together.

Well, today I must have manifested something, because while it is not an album, it IS a JR Swiftz laced heat rock that features both emcees. Again taking you back to the era where lyricism and a finely crafted beat mattered the most.

Single You Out: Eyeree Beats – Master Seminar (Ft. Jay Royale, Snotty & Supreme Cerebral)

Again, not an “official” single but I really wanted to share and spotlight this track from Eyeree Beats project, .Wav Gawd. Master Seminar is another tough track this year with some serious hitters on the mic. Jay Royale, Snotty, and Supreme Cerebral, hop on some intoxicating production from Eyeree and leave those scorching sixteens. This joint is simply bulletproof and I hope you enjoy and cop the project.
