Single You Out: Apollo Brown – Half Full (ft. Sab The Artist, Mr. Chief, Dynas, Protoman)

To be truthful, if Apollo Brown is attached to your song or project, it will in all likelihood be featured here.  He is at the pinnacle of dope production and what I like about this cut is that it differs from his previous work.  On The Left album, Gas Mask, the tracks had that boom bap with a touch of soul.  There were many great vocal samples throughout that record as well.  This time Apollo Brown forgoes that style and crafts a beat that utilizes a little funk, making this cut a little more playful.  It still adheres to his excellent standards.  The chorus made me want to claim a seat at the local bar and raise my glass. The emcees all dropped some heat in their verses.  But enough…

Single You Out: Lateb – The Virus (ft. Canibus and Amadeus The Stampede)

I listened to Lateb’s album, Wisdom and Ignorance.   I thought the album was pretty good as a whole, but this track is absolutely banging.   You have to give Matty Trump a shout out for the work behind the boards.  It has been a while since I have heard Canibus drop a verse as good as the one he does on this joint.  Amadeus The Stampede always brings some hard bars to the table.  He’s a hard man to outshine on a track.  Overall this joint gets a lot of love in the rotation.  If you like it, make sure you check out Lateb’s album by clicking the link.

Single You Out: Rite Hook – Bear With Me (prod. by Falside)

Boston’s Best Kept Secret, Rite Hook , links up with super producer, Falside , for the track Bear With Me.   Obviously this joint is going to be dope so just download it already.  It is a leak from Rite Hook’s forthcoming  album, Draw You In.  And while you are at it, you can download his album E.ye A.ssume D.amage on Leedz Edutainment Bandcamp.  It’s free.  Get it HERE!

Single You Out: Intuition – Sanctuary (prod. by Dibia$e)

Intuition has a plethora (like that word don’t you?) of styles.  He is such a diverse artist.  He can do comedic styles, boom bap, and touch on more serious and intimate topics.  I am really feeling this joint which focuses on battery and domestic violence, as he narrates two stories of individuals who try to find ‘sanctuary’ from the torment.  This is some meaningful music.  The production is also borders on the incredible, with beats provided by Dibia$e.

Single You Out: Rise and The Avid Record Collector – This Is Life

On the Bandcamp page, from whence this came, it says that this single dropped today however I haven’t heard much clamor about it.  Well,  I guess I will start pushing this song out there for all to hear.  I have always thought that Rise was among the wittiest emcees in the games.  He just has clever lines. This one is no different. It’s vintage Rise, as he showcases his conversational style over The Avid Record Collectors enjoyable production.  Also if you did not get a chance to to check out their effort from early 2009, Risen, make sure you do that.  It was a Top 10 release that year.

Single You Out: Premonition – Kingship (ft. Silent Knight, Final Outlaw, DJ Mtri)

I am very unfamiliar with the work of Premonition.  But a good intro is getting Silent Knight on the track with you. This joint is really nice.  Each of the emcees provide exceptional lyricism.  The beat is apparently provided by Kon.  Kon deserves kudos for this one.  This joint just knocks differently.  I like the intermingling of the wind instrument sample with the electronic sounds. I hate to sound cliche, but this joint goes hard.  Be on the lookout for more from Premonition in the future.

Single You Out: J.Nolan – How It Feels

I like songs that have a lot of emotion behind them.  The stronger the artist feels on a particular topic, the better his/her art is.  J.Nolan demonstrates this principle  over a jazzy beat produced by Truelv. J.Nolan goes on explaining that unless you have experienced adversity then you won’t know how it feels to be placed in another person’s shoes.   He comes to a point where he realizes maybe you won’t understand what he’s talking about because you yourself have never gone through it. Dope material, so give it a listen and download at your leisure.

Single You Out: Brown Bag All Stars

Soul Khan

When Soul Khan released his debut album, Soul Like Khan, he could have rested on his laurels and taken a breather, but to the contrary the man has just stepped up the pace a bit.  He released the single Soulstice II and he had a remix released for Shot Glass Magnified ft. Sene.  The new beat was brought on by The Audible Doctor.  I also just saw on bandcamp that someone is doing a mash up album of Soul Like Khan.   I haven’t heard it yet but the the prequel is HERE.

Koncept

Koncept also has been keeping himself busy since releasing his EP, Playing Life.  He released a physical CD of that same project and added a few extra tracks for the effort. He also has dropped a few notable gems like Day Dreaming , the remix to Playing Life (prod. by Marink), and most recently his DJ Booth feature, Things You Do. His street album, More Than Meets The Eye drops on February 22nd, so be on the lookout for that!

The Audible Doctor

The Audible Doctor basically has produced 1/2 of the cuts previously mentioned.  He has also blessed heads like Magestik Legend, Boog Brown, and most recently he did a beat for one of my favorite emcees, Silent Knight, for the cut Staying Busy which will be featured on here very soon.

J57

J57 is the man who is always passing on what the BBAS are doing and it is much appreciated.  In addition to keeping the world informed he has also been on his grind as of recent.  Late in 2010 he and Sene released the EP, Eye Don’t Dream…But I Do.  He also released the Digital Society instrumental album, which had some GREAT bonus tracks including a remix called Still Phenomenal.  He also has done a video for the title track featuring Jefferson Price which you can see below.   Most recently he did this extremely dope beat for Top $ Raz ft. YC The Cynic called The Plague.

Single You Out: T.E.F.L.O.N. – Races ft. Mina Leon, Ancient Mind, And Praverb The Wyze

I saw this single posted on K-Beta’s Twitter account and if K-Beta cosigns you that is good enough for me to take a listen to it.  This is a track that would fall in the deep and meaningful category.  It talks about spirituality in the context of religion.  Producer IDK sets the tone with a very deliberate, slow-paced, yet soulful track allowing the listener to enjoy lyrics from T.E.F.L.O.N., Ancient Mind, and Praverb The Wyze.  The hook is blessed by Mina Leon.  Check the track below!
