Awar – My Story (Video)

This is the second song off of Awar’s recently released, DJ Booth sponsored, Things Of That Nature EP.  I realize that Awar is not a household name to most, but don’t mistake him for a rookie.  Awar has been paying his dues for some years.  I haven’t heard the entire EP yet but what I have heard has been of the highlest caliber.  He has great storytelling ability and his words come from deep inside.  Artistry in the truest form.  The production on this joint comes from Frank Dukes.

Single You Out: I Am Many – Coo Coo Crazy

New single from Creative Juices artist, I Am Many.  The new mixtape, Born Again Sinner, is going to be be dropping online on May 2nd, so check for that.  This song is produced by Creative Juices front man IDE.   And what I like about this joint is the fact that this is a “true” freestyle over an “original” beat.  I am really tired of hearing people go in over industry beats.  It lacks creativity in my mind.  I Am Many really is different type of emcee that has an extremely unique flow and cadence.  Definitely check back here for more of I Am Many and Creative Juices releases.   Meanwhile…enjoy…

Single You Out: Brown Bag All Stars – Crumbling Down

What’s up with the Brown Bag Allstars, you say?  So much that it’s hard for your humble hip-hop blogger/fan to keep up with.   Everyone’s got side projects going on, whether they have just recently been released or to be released.  I am thinking of putting out a monthly column entitled “What’s Going On With The Brown Bag?”  Well, for this moment, J57 has released this single entitled Crumbling Down.  The joint is produced by Mr. Green.  It’s definitely a more sobering joint but fresh nonetheless.  The skills in this crew are really second to none right now.  Be on the lookout for a double disc project of rare and unreleased material dropping on May 17th.

Single You Out: The Regiment – The New Danger (ft. Kaimbr)

The Regiment are on fire right now.  They have already released a mixtape entitled Back To Lyrics which had a bunch of gems on it.  And they come back with this track that features Kaimbr who is currently receiving accolades for his own album, The Alexander Green Project.  They are now signed to HIPNOTT records, Kevin Nottingham’s label with an album slated to drop later this year.  They released an album in 2009 that I copped and listened to once that I think I should revisit as well entitled, A New Beginning. Makin’ moves…  Download the single below.

Single You Out: Evil Woman (ft. Sab The Artist)

I spotted this over a 2Dopeboyz a few days ago and found this track be so exceptional that I needed to add it.  The sample in the production is really nice.  This is definitely something I can find myself playing throughout the year.  Great replay value.   I am aware of Big Jess and his group Unknown Prophets but I never really listened to them.  This song is a nice intro.  And come to find out, you can download his two last albums for free on his website.  I am listening to them now and I like what I hear.

Ill Bill x Vinnie Paz – Blood Meridian Video)

This video is coming off of Ill Bill and Vinnie Paz’s collaborative effort entitled Heavy Metal Kings. And while this is not my favorite track from the album (please see Impaled Nazarene and Children Of God) this is still a really dope song and the video is really ill. The whole album is arguably my favorite thus far in 2011 and destined to wind up being reviewed. If you like dark, grimy, and intelligent hip hop then you will love Heavy Metal Kings.

Note:

This review is a long time coming.  The Dirtbag Dan Mixtape was dropped in January and here I am, approximately three months later, commenting on it.  Well, in this case I guess some news is better than no news.

Dirtbag Dan, as some of you know, has cut his teeth in independent hip hop through the Grind Time Battle circuit.  And anyone who knows anything about Grind Time, knows it is not for the faint of heart or weak of wit. Dirtbag Dan has shown and proven to be a winner in all phases of battling, but when I saw he had a mixtape, I wondered  if he could switch gears and put some good songs together.   With the The Dirtbag Dan Mixtape being the proverbial proof in the pudding, the answer is that he does put together good music.
