Sean Links – Hornets Nest (Video)

Sean Links over some Dark Arts production on the track Hornets Nest. The song serves as a warning don’t poke the bear or you are going to reap a whirlwind. The beat is like some black magic being stirred up while Sean Links issues a proper warning to all those who want to test.

I shoot from the hip like a western / To put in perspective / I step over rappers like checkers

Review:

Why did I choose to review this release out of all the many that I come across on a weekly basis? Two words come to mind my friends, collaborative innovation. Before you stands an unheralded yet very accomplished and talented group. Dub Sonata and Double A.B. have been looooong time collaborators with individual discographies that really showcase a high level of skill. Tone Spliff?…well Tone Spliff’s name has only been associated with quite literally hundreds of dope records in the last two or three years alone. He is the consummate professional. He might be your favorite DJ’s…favorite DJ. Which leaves us with Nejma Nefertiti. I had heard her on a few Napoleon Da Legend records so I was familiar with the name, but not necessarily the talent. So I studied up. I went back and listened. I raided her social media. What did I learn? Verbal arsonist. There’s polish, intelligence, and sophistication in her pen game that you just don’t see enough of these days in other artists. I was impressed. And you will also be impressed with what this union of talent did on Animal Barz.

Paradime – Time 4 Sum (Video)

Paradime is on some gentleman’s refined rap with his new video single, Time 4 Sum. Dropping some smooth sounds, with a touch of jazz sponsored by producer, Jay P. He’s got no time for monkeying around at this stage of the game differentiating himself from the young and frivolous. Everything is purposeful. Reall dope that can be found on his album, Period.

Good with the street cats / Good with the elite class / So therefore man my family is always good where they sleep at.

Milez Grimez & Bombdrop – Timeless (Video)

Milez Grimez and Bomb Drop have linked up for a new project called, 13K, and that just dropped less than an hour ago. But on the first single, Timeless, you can hear that the pair have every intention of dropping art that can stand the test of time. The beat is minimalistic in it’s approach and that allows Grimez to showcase his intent to show longevity in the craft while others were simply born to fade in the pursuit of short term goals.

Single You Out: Nef – My Nephew and I (ft. Bobby J From Rockaway)

I really wanted to showcase this producer, Nef. This man is not getting enough credit for his sound. He has a keen ear for making beautiful backdrops for emcees to tell a story. He recently released another album, The Gentleman’s Board which is extremely dope. I loved Tabula Rasa but this new one is definitively a growth in sound.

I decided to feature the Bobby J From Rockaway track, because these two just have an incredible chemistry. And Bobby J is just so clever with the wordplay. The Mordor line had me run it back. Really dope!

Single You Out: Jay Royale – Pig Stuy (ft. Born Unique) (prod. By Pete Twist)

Another single off of Jay Royale’s forthcoming EP, The Bea Gaddy Soup Kitchen. And this project is bound to be just as flames as the last, Criminal Discourse.

Jay Royale solicits the skills of Pete Twist on production, and a verse from Born Unique. So you KNOW this joint is going to be tough. This piano banger from Twist sounds like a horror movie score, which is justifiable once you hear these bars. And those Mobb Deep samples scratched in, really adds that special touch. Don’t Sleep!

Single You Out: Big Sproxx – Hold My Own (ft. Tragedy Khadafi x DJ Grouch x DJ Thera P)

Single from producer Big Sproxx featuring the incomparable Tragedy Khadafi. It’s mellow yet “deep” production. The depth of sound really keeps the listener attached to the music. And Tragedy is more than three decades in and still has razor sharp bars that everyone can relate to. His craft is really the stuff of legends and doesn’t get mentioned enough.

I ain’t even touch my zenith believe it the night’s still young – Tragedy
