The Gift Of Gab reflects on the process of gentrification in the city. People and whole communities being shaken to their core in the name of progress. The place you once called home is simply not the same anymore. This is one of the more meaningful cuts you will here in 2017. It’s off of his project, Rejoice! Real Rappers Are Rapping Again! which is being marketed very interestingly.
Single You Out: Starvin’ B – Keep Dumbin’ (ft. Clasik)
Starvin’ B is simply one of the nicest emcees in the game right now. His verse and flow here is so crisp and sickly.
Teach you after school..I’m gonna have a talk with your nana / To discuss a couple of methods to learn you some more manners…
Too ill! Clasik also drops a nice 16 over a nice piano drive production fro Eyedee. Can’t wait for more material from Starvin’ B!
Kyo Itachi – Organic (ft. Planet Asia) (Video)
Kyo Itachi and Planet Asia? Yes please! That’s a dope combination. Planet Asia and Itachi’s skills are not genetically modified…they are organic and authentic! Asia is a legend in this game and there is no debate about that!
This track is from Itachi’s forthcoming project, GENKIDAMA. If you aren’t all about that, then step away from the website…slowly and let me see your hands…
Peace!
Single You Out: Milano Constantine – Quantanamo Bay (ft. J Bux)
Newness from Milano Constantine who dropped one of the tightest projects thus far of 2017, The Way We Were. Constantine is a legit wordsmith…
“Heavyweight…I’ll crack your armor…looking like a black Spartan….”
And the beat by Prete Rosso is preemo. J-Bux drops the second verse and it too is pretty ill.
Junior Makhno x Dirt Platoon – Psychedelic Influence (Video)
Last video from Makhno’s album, Party Discipline, featuring the Dirt Platoon on the mic. What would you expect with a Makhno and Dirt Platoon collaboration? That’s right. You are going to get some of that hardbody hip hop. Raw beat. Rough rhymes. Great combination!
Make sure you check the album if you have not done so already.
Single You Out: TOPR – I Shouldn’t Have Left You (ft. DJ Quest) (prod. Cutty Bang)
I feel like Topr is someone I should have shown love to a long time ago! On a whim I copped his album, Life Of The Afterparty, on iTunes, and the album is certified heat. In particular I could listen to the first two songs from the album continuously. They are that good. I Shouldn’t Have Left You is one of those songs.
Single You Out: Typ Ill – Everything is War
Typ ILL is back with a new project, 30 Days, which should be out by the time you finish reading this post. This particular single has a mellow production taking a back seat to thought provoking rhymes that are the biproduct of Typ Ill’s experience.
The Perceptionists (Mr. Lif x Akrobatik) – Hose Down (Video)
Mr. Lif and Akrobatik are back as The Perceptionists with their track Hose Down from the forthcoming album due out on July 28th entitled, Resolution on July 28th.
First off this song has dope dancehall vibe to it, the chorus and production bring you immediately into The Preceptionist’s fold as they start to articulate the current state of affairs as it pertains to police treatment in the black community. The video and lyricism points out that there is probably not very much differentiation between the days of Civil Rights demonstrations and what is taking place today.
Dope way to relay a message!
Single You Out: Asylum Lifetime x Sherm LaRock – Something Wrong
Asylum Lifetime and Sherm Larock are back with the thing they do best: concocting bangers. And this joint knocks heavy. The beat from Sherm Larock is pretty amazing..the depth with the horns, strings, and drums really provides a surging energy. Asylum Lifetime also shows a consistently dope flow and voice as an emcee.
These guys are easily some of my favorites whom I don’t hear enough from. They are too ill. Need a full length!
Single You Out: Grieves – Rx
Grieves is one of those artists that has the ability to connect with his audience. His emotion fills his music and that makes him extremely relatable to a lot of people. Rx is a deeply honest reflection on the safety we seem to find in our addictions. The prescription can also be found for for those that have been missing his music. That is at least until his forthcoming album, Running Wild, drops later this summer.
Enjoy!
