If there’s one thing that I have learned in 2012, it’s that cuts from DJ Grazzhoppa makes any track better. He’s added his flavor to dozens of songs this year with expert chopping. But the man is also an excellent producer and this is one of many examples. In celebration of the vinyl release of his album, Intricate Moves 2, he releases this joint with M-Dot. And although M-Dot and Grazzhoppa need no introduction in these parts it’s still a good choice.
ILL WERD & XP (Rhyme Addicts) – We Here (prod by Dee Metto)
Dee Metto shot this jam over to me via Twitter and it sounds good too me. Dee Metto has been consistent in 2012 dropping banging production and working with dope artists. Now I am admittedly not familiar with Ill Werd & XP but they have that grimy flow to rock over this hard production and I can get behind that.
This song will be coming off of their collaborative project, 3TheHardWay which has not said date with the exception of being forthcoming.
Single You Out: Sommy Lovell – Death Before Genesis
First off this is an awesome title for a cut. Secondly this somber track is executed perfectly. Sommy Lovell really drops some insightful lyrics regarding disparaging conditions, sin, and conversations with God. The beat is pretty low key. The piano just preps the canvas for Lovell’s brush…
Original Text – The Out Number (2012)
Artist: Original Text
Album: The Out Number
Source: Artist
Tracklisting:
1. Never Give Up
2. Sabbatical
3. Rebel Crumbs
4. Crumbs
5. Native
6. The 65th
7. Energy Thieves
Note:
This is one of those instances that I really don’t have a lot of time set aside for a full review of an album, but I was compelled to at least write something. This EP is really good as is the duo known as Original Text.
Original Text is comprised of Ari Why as the producer and Tito Fuerte as the emcee. Both were already accomplished in various other projects/groups but decided to combine their talents for this project.
The first thing you will notice when you go through the album is the fact that Ari Why has a lot of sounds in his arsenal. So many great musical flavors are comprised in this small package. He brings you boom bap, classical, Middle Eastern, and Spanish flavors giving the EP a very eclectic feel.
Tito Fuerte is an extremely strong emcee addressing a variety of different topics in his flows. Fuerte touches on politics and sociology among other items in his rhymes. He also can bring his flow from English to Spanish and back again effortlessly. A truly talented artist who is impactful in his lines.
Eclipse 7777 – No Beginning (Video)
Eclipse 7777? Well in my mind this guy just made his HHD debut with a resounding splash. He brings some really personal and introspective lyrics to the table. The beat is what drew me in. That’s some exceptional work behind the boards by P8e. I am going to have to check in with this artist to see what else we might have on tap…
Ullnevano – Can’t Complain (Video)
Ullnevano is back at kicking those fresh lines over Logic Marselis production for a laid back vibe, Can’t Complain. You got to keep pushing through what may seem like a difficult time because it ain’t really that bad.
Can’t Complain is coming off of the duo’s forthcoming album, The Protocol. The bad news for you is that it isn’t slated
SingleYou Out: Con-Man – Hey Dreamer
I had meant to post this track days ago. And while I have hear this sample used before just recently, it doesn’t make this track any less dope. Con-Man brings a nice skill set to the microphone to top it off. His new mix tape, Bogies & Coffee drops on December 20th.
Mike Beatz – Heaven (Video)
This video and song are the best way to start your Monday. Mike Beatz not only spits venom on this track but he produces this banger as well. The beat is straight hellfire (ironic) and lyrically Beatz takes shots at the state of affairs in hip hop. Don’t ride on his coat tails and joch him when he’s famous, then it’s too late,
Single You Out: Godilla – Wild Life (ft. Shallow Pockets and GQ Nothin Pretty)
Welcome to the jungle. New dope from the homie Godilla surface the other day and it certainly bears mentioning. This joint is coming off of his forthcoming Altered Beast project which should be surfacing soon. JBL The Titan is on the production while Shallow Pockets and GQ Nothin Pretty team up with Godilla on the mic. When all things are considered this song sounds threatening.
PremRock – Mark’s Wild Years (2012)
Aritst: PremRock
Album: Mark’s Wild Years
Source: Artist
Note:
Certain artists just push the thresholds as to what hip hop can do and speak about. PremRock expounds upon many topics with his album, Mark’s Wild Years. And it’s not just what he’s talking about, it’s how he’s talking about it. The wordplay throughout this album is exceptional and the somber tones in PremRock’s voice offer up his thoughts with that much more potency.
