Note:
I just recently became aware that Side Effect moved to my stomping grounds in Austin, TX from Philadelphia, PA. I have been following his career for sometime so I am honored to have him in the Live Music Capitol Of The World. I’ve always felt his flow and delivery. He has a commanding voice to rock the microphone that deserves your attention.
Flyest On Papyrus is a no frills release. There are no guest shots or big name producers. The man is relying on his God-given talent which is not a problem for us hip hop fans. My favorite track off of the album is Cheaper To Keep Her. I love the way he calls out those who can’t resist the female persuasion and put their fidelity aside. They already have a good woman but still go around the town skirting. The moral of the story is, eventually your girl is going to find out you are messing around, and the price you will pay…EXPENSIVE. Side Effect taking folks to church right here.
The next two tracks add a bluesy funk to the mix but still consist of those heavy bars Side Effect is dropping these days.
Fake Friends content should be obvious. Side Effect addresses those people who prove to be “snakes in the grass” and “backstabbers”. The production is superb. It’s also the small things like the twang of the guitar and the brass of the horn that make a huge difference in the quality of the track.
I Been Down has a vocal sample in the back drop that continuously uses the same three words throughout. And that really epitomizes the mood of the lyricism. Side Effect lets you know he is not a fly by night or flash in the pan rapper. He has been in it for the duration and has the discography to show for it.
So don’t be like me any longer…stop sleeping and pick up this release.
Note: Side Effect has since released a collaborative mixtape with another Austin emcee who goes by the name of Mirage who also has been in the game for a minute, and while I have not personally listened to it yet here is the link for that project as well: http://sideeffectmusic.com/album/the-undergrind-mixtape
