When you think about a joint that embodies hip hop, this is a cut that should come to mind. Verbal Acrobatics heralds off of Pushing Button’s album from earlier this year, Full Level. This song has it all: Dope rhymes and flows from M-Dot and Plastic, along with a beat that is nothing short of a head nodder from the production duo with precise scratched cuts. Love this joint.
Stu Bangas & Wordsworth – Mother Of My Kids (Video)
Stu Bangas and Wordsworth just released a project on Friday called, Two Kings. I copped it. I loved it. Stu Bangas has been crafting project after project over the course of the last several years. He’s got so many dope releases with so many dope emcees. But this could be my favorite. Wordsworth, while not recently prolific in his releases, has ALWAYS remained the consummate emcee. His conversational style and his way of narrating stories and concepts plays so well with Stu’s beats. And you can hear that trade craft here as he talks to his estranged spouse. Great song. Great album.
Mickey Diamond & Big Ghost Ltd – Word Bond (Video)
It’s that time of year again! The holiday season is filled with alot of things to be thankful for, and Mickey Diamond and Big Ghost Ltd is a prominent reason for thanks! These two have developed a chemistry and combination we all look forward to. As much as I love everything Mickey Diamond puts out there is something about the Gucci Ghost releases that just puts it up a notch above everything. Word Bond is smooth, yet still bangs effortless.
New album…Gucci Gambinos…out NOW! Don’t wait! Cop on Bandcamp and play at your Thanksgiving Dinner!
Dheezy & Planet Asia – Trick Or Treat (Video)
Ok. I saw this release on one of my feeds and didn’t know much about it, but if you are working with Planet Asia, you are definitely going to get a look from me. There’s few who have been doing it longer, and none who has been doing it better. And he says it true right here:
Once you heard the God voice you knew he would be murkin’ shit
Dheezy is a rising Australian emcee who has a really nice flow that fits really nicely with this superb Statik Selektah production. This bass line just thumps!
Asia and Dheezy have a collaborative project out now called Green Tea Flowin which I will be getting into soon!
A-F-R-O & Stu Bangas – Lost Souls (Video)
A-F-R-O and Stu Bangas unleash the video single for their cut, Lost Souls, off of their recently released, The Bad and the Ugly. The production has a ‘cosmic’ quality about it while still maintaining that boom bap sound that Stu Bangas name is synonymous with, and A-F-R-O brings us seemingly another breathless verse that will have those lost souls wandering.
Willie The Kid & V Don – Exxon (Video)
I’ve said it before and will say it yet again, Willie The Kid and V Don are the preeminent combo in hip hop. They are doing a sound that others can’t even reach for. It’s a smooth and refined hip hop that can only be found with this duo and most recently on the extremely dope project, Deustsche Marks 4.
You might got the wrong energy around you / I can’t hear the hate, the Coupe is sound proof
Ransom, Conway The Machine, & V Don – Nefarious (Video)
This is quite the memorable track from Chaos Is My Ladder 2 and the video really does do this justice. Nefarious is a conversation that Ransom has with Lucifer. V Don gives this track a minimalist yet haunting feel, while Ransom handles the questions and the answers from both parties in an incredible lyrical fashion. If the devil made himself present to you, how would the conversation go?
This is lyrical genius. And the video is probably one of the best this year. The effects were so well done and the actor who portrayed Lucifer was sinisterly on point.
Gives me chills.
Daniel Son & Finn – Fall Breeze (Video)
Daniel Son and Finn have a major win on their hands with their album, Hare Brained Schemes, that dropped a few weeks ago. It’s one of a few albums that I have on repeat. There’s a melodic grit to this album, and on Fall Breeze, you can hear that while there are no days off, it’s good to take a journey to the places that bring peace and levity.
Fall Breeze is that musical journey.
Big Twins & Planet Asia – Different Language (prod. by DirtyDiggs) (Video)
The combination of Planet Asia, Big Twins, and Dirty Diggs is a formidable one with their new video single, Different Language. This production by Diggs is a real win. I love how this vocal sample is flipped, while Twins and Asia, do what they do best, destroy mics in sixteen bars. This is soulful yet lethal.
Eddie Kaine & BP – 13 Going On 30 (ft. Smaccz) (Video)
Sometimes life and circumstances force you to age a little more quickly, hence we have 13 Going On 30 from Eddie Kaine and BP’s album from last year, House Of Kaine. Kaine and Smaccz spit on some ‘coming of age stories’ over a sublime beat from BP.
